Susanne and her two best friends have been dreaming of a holiday. All of them need an escape. Especially Susanne, who is reeling from the news that her ex is getting remarried. They need the warm Tuscan sun, delicious Italian food and wine, and – most of all – the time to unwind with each other. What they get is Harry.

 

Handsome, charming and great company, Harry soon sweeps Susanne off her feet for a holiday fling. And why not? Except that everything he’s told them is a lie.

 

Who is the man they’ve let into their house – who Susanne has let into her bed? They have no idea what Harry is capable of – what he’s done to get this far, and what he’s prepared to do to ensure he gets his way.

 

By the time they find out, it will be too late to stop their dream holiday becoming a nightmare.

For the fast majority of this enthralling story the chapters alternate between the perspectives of the three friends Susanne ( The mother) Dale (The outspoken one) and Evie (The quiet one) Three diverse women with their own individual personalities and their own personal issues and flaws. Susanne and Dale had been friends and supported each other through the trials and tribulations of life for years whilst their friendships with Evie were relatively new. Out of the three of them, I would say that outspoken Dale was my favourite, I couldn't help admiring her loyalty towards Susanne and her determination to get her best friend to see past Harry' good looks and charm and realise he wasn't know he appeared to be. I thought that Evie was irritating from the moment that she was introduced into the story and as for Susanne, the way that she went on about her son Cole came across as obsessive and as for comparing her lover Harry to her own son, that just came across as plain creepy. It wasn't as if Cole was missing or was never coming home, he was with his father and was perfectly safe, he was probably glad to get a break from his overprotective mother. Our three friends are looking forward to their stay at a luxury villa with its stunning views of the Tuscan countryside,a chance to chill by the pool and visit the historical sites of Italy. But they have hardly had a chance to settle in before handsome Harry waltzes into their lives and Suzanne falls under his charming spell. Dale doesn't trust Harry and doesn't hesitate in letting her feelings be known which causes a rift in her friendship with Susanne. we all know that Dale is right to be concerned about her friend but who is the mysterious Harry? What is his plans for Susanne and her friends? Are their lives in danger? And were does beautiful young Star fit into the story?

This is not a fast paced story, it isn't until the final quarter that any action takes place. It is a well written, study of friendships, loyalty, deception, manipulation and the fragility of the bonds that hold relationships together and how easily they can be broken by outside influences. This book actually has two unexpected and shocking endings, both of which leave a opening for a possible sequel.I thought this was a very enjoyable read and I would happily read more of this author's books in the future.

Throughout Beverley’s many years spent working in advertising and PR, she had always wanted to write fiction. In 2015 a creative writing course inspired her debut novel, Seeking Eden, which was published in 2017. The sequel, Eden Interrupted, soon followed. Beverley’s third novel – her first with Bookouture – fulfils a long-time goal to publish a psychological thriller.

Born in Yorkshire, and raised in Kent, Beverley currently lives in West Sussex with her partner and their adorable terrier. When not writing, you’ll find her reading, walking the dog or listening to rock music.
