BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - So Many Lies by Paul J Teague

A beautiful remote tropical island, no Wi-Fi, no phone signal and a family gathering that is destined to end in bloodshed.

it is Tony Harrington's seventieth birthday and he and his wife Susan have invited their children Ben,Steve,Gaby and Richard plus their families to a all expenses paid stay on a tropical island to celebrate the occasion.

The family reunion should be a cause to celebrate but beneath the surface tension and unresolved grudges are lurking. Time is ticking down like the timer on a unexploded bomb which when it explores will reveal secrets and lies from the members of the Harrington families pasts and not everyone will survive the blast.

This gripping story was predominantly voiced from Ben Harrington's perspective and flipped back and forth in time. Ben was a character who had really mastered the art of self pity. The thing was that he didn't have the right to feel sorry for himself, he only had himself to blame for the mess his life was in. I can't say that I liked him very much or his horrible girlfriend Lauren or his brother Steve. I didn't like Tony and Susan much either, I cant stand people with money who only care about their own reputation and think that they can solve any problem and make it disappear just by throwing money at it. That said, some of them did redeem themselves as the story on the island unfolded. Interspersed throughout the book was chapters that slipped back in time and took the reader through the lies that were the catalyst for the events that happened on the night of the party. My favourite parts of the story were the chapters that were set on the island, they were packed with tension, mystery and intrigue.

Welcome to the lifetimes of the rich and not so famous, a twisted tale of families, lies, deception, relationships regrets and forgivness. The reader knows that something went seriously wrong at the party from the first few pages but what and why? The intensity and sense of foreboding builds as the story unfolds and heads towards its shocking conclusion. This is a very thrilling enjoyable read and a brilliant way to escape from lockdown and spend a couple of days on a tropical island. Curl up in your comfy chair, forget about the madness outside and eat as much cake as you like without any interference from either Shalini or Sarah. Just make sure you stay away from anyone named Harrington.
