Review: Fractured by Catherine McKenzie

Fractured Fractured by Catherine McKenzie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Julie Prentice and her family move to the idyllic Mount Adams district of Cincinnati hoping to make a fresh start.Julie is a author who was being stalked after the publication of her best selling book The Murder Game which may or may not have been based on a tragic incident that occurred when Julie was a law school. After meeting and feeling a connection with their new neighbour John Dunbar,Julie is feeling very hopeful about their new beginning but not long after they have moved in a nasty things start happening to Julie.Has her stalker found her after all surely her new neighbours don't have any reason to dislike her.

The story is told from Julie and John`s perspectives, some chapters count down from a year ago when Julie and her family moved in and explain the events in the neighbourhood that let up to the tragedy that happens on the street while other chapters are set in the present and are about the court case. You know from the beginning of the story that something bad has happened on the street but you don't find out what until near the end of the book.

As there is in every street all over the world there is a mixed bag of characters and families with their own problems and secrets, some of the characters were likeable, some not.I had mixed feelings about the main two characters Julie and John but especially about Julie, was she not accepted by most of her new neighbours because she was trying too hard or did they sense that there was something off about her?.Was Julie an innocent victim of circumstance or did she bring all the misfortune on herself?.

It's not a fast paced story but it is gripping and intriguing.
