BOOK REVIEW - Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty

Truly Madly Guilty by Liane Moriarty

Three couples and three children get together on a lazy afternoon for a barbecue, all is going well until a event occurs after which the accusations and blame laying begins.Relationships and loyalties are tested and pushed to breaking point.

You know from the first line of the book that something happens at the barbecue but you don't find out what until over half way through the story.I liked the way this was done,so many books are spoiled because the author gives away an important event far too early in the story. The chapters alternate between events before, during and after the barbecue and are voiced mainly by Erika and Constentine who had been best friends since they were young children, two characters who for various reasons I found really annoying and I certainly couldn't understand why they continued to be friends after they reached adulthood. The characters that stood out as likeable to me where Oliver,Vid,his wife Yvonne and their daughter Dakota, whisk,Barney the dog,Holly and Ruby and poor old Harry.

It's a story about families, relationships, responsibility and not judging people by first impressions.I know by reading other on line reviews that I am in the minority but I didn't enjoy reading this book and struggled to finish it.I got bored and lost interest in the story a couple of times, many of the chapters were too long and there was a background story that didn't really interest me and felt like it wasn't needed.I only finished the book because I wanted to know what happened to the victim of the occurrence at the barbecue. It is a well written book, its has a mixed bag of believable characters but I didn't enjoy reading it which is a shame because I loved reading The Husbands Secret
