Review: Good as Gone by Any Gentry

Good as Gone Good as Gone by Amy Gentry
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Eight years ago Anna's thirteen year old daughter Julie was kidnapped from her bedroom in the middle of the night. The family were shattered but managed to stick together, clinging on to the hope that Julie is still alive. Then one night a young woman turns up at their door claiming to be Julie,Anna's husband Tom and her other daughter Jane are overjoyed and gladly welcome the stranger into their home but Anna is not so sure this person is really her beloved Julie, she tries to ignore her doubts but they are always there nagging away at the back of her mind. When she is contacted by a private investigator who claims he knows things about the woman who might be her daughter Anna starts a desperate search for the truth.

This book is gripping, twisty, intriguing and really does keep you guessing from beginning to end.Telling the story with one characters parts being told in the present tense as their part of the story unfolds and the other characters story working backwards from the present to the past is a unique and clever idea that adds extra tension to the story. The characters are well thought out and very believable, you can sense Anna's desperation as she struggles with her doubts as the story unfolds and she uncovers hidden secrets and lies.It is hard to understand some of the behaviour of the young woman who may or may not be Julie but her story is so heartbreaking it is really hard not to feel some sympathy for her.

I loved this book and would happily give it far more than five stars if I could,I will definitely been adding this author to my list of authors to look out for.

Many thanks to publishers Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for a ARC of this book via netgalley
