Never Out of Sight by Louise Stone
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
WARNING,
Do not start this book unless you are planning to read it in one sitting because once you start reading you will be completely hooked.
When Freya`s sixteen year old daughter Zoe disappears without a trace the only way that Freya can prove that she is not linked to her daughter's disappearance is to tell the truth. The problem is Freya has secrets of her own and if she tells the truth her whole world will come crashing down around her.
This twisty story is narrated by Freya as the reader follows her desperate search to find out what has happened to her daughter while at the same time trying to keep her own secrets hidden from the police and her husband Stephen.Freya is a complex character who I had mixed feelings about as the story unfolded. On one hand I felt sympathy for her and could understand her fear and anxiety because her daughter but on the other hand she could be very frustrating and naive especially when she began to uncover things about her daughter that she refused to believe. There were a number of likeable characters including one poor couple who's lives were torn apart due to the lies and manipulation of other characters. My favourite character was DI Simon Carter who unlike in most thrillers actually cared about what had happened to Zoe and if her parents were coping ok.The question is was he right in being so concerned about Freya and Stephen or were one or both of them involved in Zoe`s disappearance?.The rest of the characters were selfish manipulators who wouldn't have known what the truth was if it had jumped up and hit them over the head with a Christmas tree.
It's a fast paced story about Families, lies and manipulation, packed with flawed realistic characters and plenty of twists that keep the reader guessing. The chapters are short and the story is well written and kept me completely hooked from the beginning right to the totally unexpected ending.
Many thanks to HQ Digital uk for a arc of this book via netgalley in exchange for a honest review.
