Marley Bennington had brutally murdered her older sister Samantha and sucessfully framed Samantha's husband Alex Clarke for the crime. With Alex now safely tucked away in prison, Marley was set to inherit millions of dollars tainted with her sisters blood. But suddenly two obstacles stood in her way,one was her brother and the other was a feisty,old woman.
Mary wasn't happy about Alex's conviction and when Mary gets a bee in her bonnet about something,nothing and no one will stop her getting to the truth. Ok, Alex might be an obnoxious,sleezebag but that didn't mean that her deserved to be locked up for a crime that he didn't commit.
But Mary is pitting herself against a deadly,twisted psychopath who has killed before and is prepared to kill anyone who stands in the way of her obtaining the reward for her well executed plan.
If you have read the previous book Facing A Twisted Judgment then you are already aware that Marley is more than one sandwich short of a picnic. We get to spend a lot of time inside Marley's head throughout this book and she is definitely a very twisted,opinionated and not very likeable character. Neither Jackson,Cillian or Dalia appeared in this story instead the main character was attorney Tallulah West (love that name) who was best friends with Jackson's wife Eloise and was hired by Mary to help her prove her case against Marley. Tallulah had her doubts about becoming involved in the investigation especially considering Alex had confessed to Samantha's murder. But the more they uncovered, the more she began to realise just how deadly and devious Marley really was. Interspersed throughout the book were chapters that were voiced by a young artist called Marin who had been tasked with reproducing replicas of Samantha Bennington's collection of paintings. Unfortunately none of the chapters were voiced by Mary which was a shame because she is a wonderful,vivid character. I think almost everyone would love to be as active and feisty as she is when they get to ninety.
The Italian Mafia,abusive husbands,unscrupulous art dealers and a unstable,crazy woman all combine together in a deception filled game of cat and mouse. There was twists and turns and a couple of intense heroine in danger moments. It's a well written thriller,it's obvious that the author has done a lot of research into the subjects covered in this book. An enjoyable read and I hope the author is planning to write more books featuring Mary in the future.
