BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - The Tree Beasts by E.R.Fallon

                                                                     Book Description:

Beautiful Blackthorn Island is a small community, but at its heart lies a big, ugly secret...

The island of Blackthorn is a seemingly normal place that hides an evil secret. Not only does the island have strange trees that appear like exotic, menacing beasts - several of its youngest residents have mysteriously disappeared over the years. Some inhabitants think that the island's trees even look like the missing children.

Paul Gold, one of identical twin boys, is the latest child to go missing. When his mother and sister believe they are seeing him again on the island years after his disappearance, they are determined to discover the truth behind what happened to him.

But there are those on the island who are just as determined to keep the secret...

A spine chilling sense of evil permeates the trees and pages of this sinister tale of relationships with a added dash of mystery and a sprinkling of the supernatural, folk tales and horror. The story starts off with the mysterious disappearance of young Paul Gold and then moves forwards in time and follows the lives of his parents and his older sister Katie, who just happens to be in a relationship with the boy who was the last known person to see Paul before he disappeared in the vicinity of the sinister woods with its creepy trees. This obviously causes problems between Katie and her parents who already have a strained relationship. The other characters were a mixed bag of diverse individuals, some were good readers, some were evil readers and some had no idea what a reader was. Some were trustworthy, some were not so trustworthy and some were most definitely not who they appeared to be. Why did Katie keep seeing her missing brother? What was a reader? What was the significance of the mysterious mark that some people including Katie had on her forehead? And why did some of the trees appear to contain human forms?

To be honest I don't normally read this genre but i was drawn to this book by the stunning, sinister cover and the synopsis. I am really glad that I did because it was a gripping, mesmerising, captivating story. The author's descriptions were both beautiful and spine chilling. It was a well written, quick, enthralling read and I would love to watch a film adaptation of this story. Chilling, atmospheric and very highly recommended
