Book Description:
When the body of a naked man is found in the middle of a barren field, a rural community is left in shock – and fear.
When a key witness disappears and a web of deceit and lies threatens to derail the investigation, she fears the worst.
Can Kay and her team of detectives find out who is behind the man’s murder before another victim is targeted?
This intricately plotted thriller is voiced from the perspectives of Kay and each member of her dedicated and loyal team. They were all a very likeable bunch of characters who each had their own individual personalities and character traits. I loved the closeness and banter between Kay, her team and the other investigative personal that they encouraged throughout the story. I also liked how each member of the team had the opportunity to put their own theories forward and how the case was eventually solved due to the determination and dedication of the whole team and not because Kay had a sudden light bulb moment that solved the case. I liked how the story wasn't bogged down by interdepartmental back stabbing and politics. It was a complex case that had red herrings, more dead ends than a maze and multiple suspects. There was characters who were likeable, some who were not so likeable, characters who were not who they appeared to be and one who was cruel, twisted and had a total disregard for the lives of the people around them. I really liked poor Shelley but who was she and how did she fit into the story? Who was the mystery dead man in the field? Who had killed him and why?
Turn To Dust is a very well written police procedural that has a fantastic cast of diverse, well rounded characters and a intriguing plot that keeps the reader guessing. The reader was granted access into Kay's life outside the station and given just enough information to make her more relatable but not so much that it impeded the speed of the main story. The author had also woven into the plot examples of the stark differences between the ways that we humans view and treat animals.Although this is the ninth book in the Kay Hunter series,it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. I did enjoy this book and would happily read more of this author's books in the future.
