Someone is about to die… Someone is about to lie…
At the intimate house-warming party for her glorious ‘grand design’, Kathleen confides in her best friend Beth that she is terrified of one of their close friends, but daren’t reveal which one. The guests are a tight-knit group, but Kathleen is convinced one of them is dangerous.
The next day Kathleen’s body is found at the foot of a cliff and Beth must face the sickening truth that she may have been killed by one of their trusted friends. With little help from the police, Beth’s decides to seek answers.
All the friends have secrets they are desperate to hide, but only one of them is ready to kill to keep theirs safe…
This enthralling thriller is narrated entirely from the perspective of Beth,a stubborn and fiercely loyal character who was determined to uncover the truth behind the death of her best friend's death despite the fact that in doing so she was jeopardizing her relationships with both her husband and her group of friends. Each member of her inner circle had their own personal secret including Beth's husband Sami and were constantly telling her to leave the investigating to the police. I thought that Beth was a mostly a likeable character and I admired her determination to uncover the truth but I also thought that she was a bit of a hypocrite because whilst she was getting upset with Sami about keeping secrets, she was harbouring one of her own. I can't say that I liked Sami very much, he seemed to have a high opinion of himself and his group of friends. According to him, none of them could have been involved in Kathleen's death because they had decent jobs and were respectable people. Right.... There has been numerous serial killers throughout history who have been hiding their true nature behind a mask of respectability. As Beth dug into Kathleen's life, she was shocked to discover that her best friend wasn't the person that she thought she was. But who within their inner circle would want to hurt her and why? And could Beth's determination to uncover the truth placing her own life in danger?
This story is a complex, slow burner that captivates the reader and draws you into the author's realistic character's lives. The twists and turns kept the reader guessing and the isolated location added intensity to the story. The island being a intoxicating blend of beauty and danger. I really enjoyed this well written, gripping mystery/ thriller and would happily read more of this author's books in the future.
