BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - Small Sacrifices (Detective India Hargreaves Book #3) by L.E.Luttrell

                                                                BOOK DESCRIPTION

Be careful what you wish for.

She wanted to be famous. But not like this.

Ellen Gibson always dreamed of being a star. At a young age those dreams were shattered.
Discovering she holds the winning ticket in a 55-million Powerball jackpot, Ellen sees it as her opportunity to be in the limelight. But at what cost?

Detective India Hargreaves and her small team are called in to investigate the disappearance of five- year-old Joshua Gibson, but the investigation is taken over by the big guns from Police Headquarters when it turns out to be a kidnapping.

When the media and the lead investigator suspect Ellen of being behind the kidnapping, her fame disintegrates into a nightmare and she seems powerless to stop events spiralling out of control …

Who wants to be a millionaire or famous or both? I think most people's answer to that question would be yes to one or both. But does having money or being famous actually bring you happiness or as in this gripping story could it result in your world tumbling down faster than the numbered balls in a lottery machine. Ellen had always dreamed of being famous and had finally got her wish granted but not in a way that she would have imagined or wanted. As the story unfolded, my opinion of her character changed more often than the English weather, I felt sympathy for her because of the way that she was treated by her unsympathetic, seemingly controlling husband Max, I also felt a lot of empathy for her because of the way she was treated and judged at times during the story. But she also had a selfish side to her character and could be quite unlikable at times. I felt a lot of sympathy for poor little Josh,Queenie the dog and a character called Billy who didn't have the intelligence to comprehend the seriousness of the situation that he had found himself caught up in. I thought that DI India Hargreaves was a fantastic, very likeable character, she treated her colleagues kindly and with respect and was in a loving relationship with her husband Rob which is something quite rare in the world of fiction. Unfortunately there was character's scattered throughout the story who didn't know how to treat people with compassion or respect and didn't care about the consequences of their actions.

Set in Australia, this is a well written, addictive thriller that hooks the reader in from the first page, keeps you guessing and causes you to experience a wide range of emotions. The cast of characters were realistic and believable, some likeable, some not so likeable. I thought that it was a very enjoyable thriller and would happily read more of this author's books in the future.
