BOOK REVIEW - The Catch by T.M.Logan

                                                                BOOK DESCRIPTION

She says he's perfect. I know he's lying . . .

He caught me watching, and our eyes met. That was when it hit me.
There was something not quite right about my daughter's new boyfriend . . .

The doting father

Ed finally meets his daughter's boyfriend for the first time. Smart, successful and handsome, Ryan appears to be a real catch. Then Abbie announces their plan to get married.

The perfect fiancé

There's just one problem. Ed thinks Ryan is lying to them.

Who would you believe?

All of Ed's instincts tell him his daughter is in terrible danger - but no-one else can see it. With the wedding date approaching fast, Ed sets out to uncover Ryan's secrets, before it's too late . .

All a caring parent wants for their child is for their lives to be happy, secure and safe from harm which is perfectly understandable whilst a child is growing up but once they reach adulthood, they need to be given the freedom to live their own lives. Unfortunately, there are some parents who struggle to let their child go and can be very controlling and over protective. Our main character Ed adored his daughter Abbie and was prepared to go to any lengths that he deemed necessary to keep her safe from harm and protect her from dodgy boyfriends. And as far as Ed was concerned there was definitely something dodgy about Abbie's new fiance Ryan, that there was something dark lurking behind the dark eyes, shy smile and perfect manners. Of course, neither Abbie or Ed's wife Claire were prepared to listen to Ed's doubts and concerns so he decides to go all Tom Cruise ala Mission Impossible and starts digging into Ryan's life, determined to uncover the evidence that he needed to prove that his suspicious are correct. Although I could fully understand Ed's concerns about Abbie's safety and despite the fact that Ed and Claire had a tragic backstory that might have gone a little way into explaining his thoughts, actions and behaviour, I found that he was a very annoying character and for various reasons I didn't think he was very likeable. He was so obsessed with his search for evidence that he didn't once take Abbie and Claire's feelings into consideration. But were Ed's  suspicions about Ryan correct? Was Ryan a cunning, manipulative psychopath or a genuine, caring nice guy? Will Ed's suspicions result in him losing everything that he cares about?

The book is divided into three sections and are voiced from the perspectives of first Ed and Claire, then just Ed and the final third is narrated by Abbie, Claire and Ryan. The writer cleverly keeps the reader in the dark about what Ryan's thoughts were about Abbie and her family, what the truth about Ryan's character may or may not have been and if Abbie and Ryan's relationship was as happy as it appeared to be.

I love T.M.Logan's thrillers, they are always extremely well written, thrilling reads that hook the reader in from the first page, keep you guessing and racing through the pages. His characters are always diverse, vivid and realistic, the plots are intricate and gripping and his books are enthralling, enjoyable reads and very very highly recommended.
