BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - The Loch by Dee Taylor

                                                                 BOOK DESCRIPTION

‘The Loch’ is set on the shores of Loch Ness.
It’s a harrowing, unforgettable tale of courage and romance, unfolding between the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands and in the murky depths of the loch itself.

With drama escalating in suspense, this entertaining and thrilling novel is the story of a former stripper from the Aberdeen clubs emotionally torn between two men: a deep sea diver from the oil rigs and a highlander with a violent and tragic past.
There is greed and horror in a search for Bonnie Prince Charlie's Jacobite gold within the ever-present menace of the fabled creature of the Loch.

Set in the late 1960s against the backdrop of the beauty of  the highlands of Scotland and within the depths of Loch Ness, this thrilling story has all the ingredients of a classic adventure. There's romance, danger, lost treasure, historical facts and the mysterious legend of Nessie, the Loch Ness monster.

Deep sea diver Jack and his former stripper girlfriend Lucy are camping in the shores of Loch Ness when they have a terrifying encounter with the legendary monster. An encounter that will change their lives forever, only not in a way that Jack would have expected or wanted. His obsession with getting definitive proof of the creatures existence results in the couple being introduced to Red Agnus, a gruff, kilt wearing Scotsman who in Lucy's eyes is everything that Jack isnt. It is through Red that the pair learn about the legend of Bonnie Prince Charlie's gold that is rumoured to be lost somewhere in the depths of the loch. Now they have two opportunities to possibly make some money and with pound signs in their eyes, the trio begin a search for the lost gold. But unbeknownst to the treasure hunters, their every move is being watched by a pair of ruthless, twisted individuals who are also interested in getting their hands on the gold and are prepared to go to any lengths that they seem necessary to fulfil their desires.

This story doesn't have a very large cast of characters but the people who did appear were a mixed bag of diverse individuals. The main characters were vivid and realistic, some likeable, some not so likeable. I can't say that I thought Lucy was very likeable for various reasons and the Barsh brothers made my skin crawl every time they appeared in the story. I spent some of my younger years in Scotland and have been to the highlands and Loch Ness, it is a area of stunning nature beauty that I probably didn't appreciate at the time due to my young age. I also remember singing The Skye Boat song which is mentioned in this book when I was at school.

The Loch is a very well written, beautifully descriptive, thrilling read that builds on intensity as the drama unfolds before the reader's captivated eyes. I would love to watch a film adaptation of this gripping story and would happily read more of this author's books in the future.
