BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - Finding Milly by Nathan Burrows

Jimmy Tucker is definitely not having a very good day, he had been informed earlier that day that he has a inoperable brain aneurysm deep within his head that could burst at any time and only has months to live. Now he has got back home and discovered that the one person he wanted to share his bad news with, his daughter Milly isn't at home. At first he is not overly worried, after all, she is a adult but as time passes, Jimmy begins to get very concerned about her whereabouts.

After the police investigation stalls, Jimmy takes things into his own hands and begins his own investigation into Milly's disappearance. But it's not long before he discovers that his beloved daughter is not the woman he thought she was.

With the help of some friends, JImmy begins to uncover Milly's hidden, secret life. But with the timer of the bomb inside his head constantly counting down the days of his life, will he be able to uncover the truth before time runs out.....for both of them.

Whilst I am reading, I like the author to cause me to feel at least something for the characters who feature in whatever book I happen to be reading at that particular moment in time. Some sort of connection or preferably a mixed bag of emotions especially when comes down to the main character or characters. Well, I think that the author of this book has created a main character who has managed to work his way into my heart and take up residence within. Jimmy Tucker was a wonderful, likeable character, a loveable rouge who was charming, witty, had a heart of gold but wasn't afraid to use his fists if necessary. I loved the banter between Jimmy and his friends and motley gang of amateur investigators, Gareth (The ex con) Dave (The Computer whizz) Robbie (The mouthy dustman) and Big Joe (The pub landlord with the endless supply of free booze) Jimmy didn't encounter a large cast of characters during his search for Milly but the characters that he does interact with were a mixed bag of realistic individuals. There was a couple of characters who's integrity I had doubts about and wondered if Jimmy was doing the right thing by trusting them. And a few seriously, nasty, twisted individuals.

I will be honest and admit that it did take me a few attempts to read this book,it's a bit of a slow burner to begin with and I don't have a lot of patience when it comes to books and films. I like to be hooked in from the beginning or I tend to lose interest. But I'm glad that I persevered with this story because it turned out to be a enjoyable blend of action and mystery. A well written thriller that had some witty, laugh out load moments,a loveable main character and a heart breaking conclusion. I could easily imagine Liam Neeson (mmmm, Liam Neeson, ooops, sorry I got a bit distracted there, let's get back to the review) playing Jimmy in a film adaptation of this book. This is the first book that I have read that was written by this author and i would quite happily read more of his books in the future.
