BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - I May Kill You by Keith Dixon

Imagine the scene, you have just opened a letter, just a ordinary letter in a plain envelope. It starts off with some random person ranting on about their likes and dislikes. You begin to lose interest and skim read to the end and that's when you read something that definitely grabs your attention and sends shivers down your spine. The letter ends with the line 'I May Kill You'

You're automatically think that it's someone's idea of a sick joke, people don't normally give you advance warning that they are going to kill you. Little do you realise that you are only one out of hundreds of people who have also received the same note and this particular killer isn't playing by the usual serial killer rules.

One of the other recipients of a note is a teenage girl called Giselle Buckland who just happens to be the daughter of ex cop Ben Buckland. No one threatens Ben's beloved daughter and gets away with it and so begins a frantic hunt for a twisted killer. But will Ben be able to uncover the person's identity before the killer sets his sights on his daughter.

This fast paced thriller is predominately voiced from Ben's perspective, I loved Ben, I loved his witty comments and sense of humour and I loved the interactions between him and his friend Duncan. I loved the mixed bag of vivid characters who lived in the same apartment block as Ben and the love/hate interactions between him and DCI Serena Howarth, a character with whom, let's just say, he had a bit of history with. As a parent myself, I could fully understand his burning desire to protect his daughter but he also came across as a bit selfish at times. He didn't once stop and take into consideration that his actions could cause the killer to target Giselle in a act of retaliation for Ben's interference with their meticulously planned project. But then Ben was an act first and Danny the consequences kind of guy. If things went wrong (which the normally did) he could easily mope about and feel sorry for himself later. Interspersed throughout the book there was chapters that were narrated from the killers perspective. This person was a very intelligent individual whose modus operandi was rather ingenious as was the reason behind the killings.

This is a well written thriller that holds the reader's attention throughout, keeps you guessing and frantically turning the pages. It's a enthralling blend of thriller and police procedural with a added pinch of laugh out loud humour. The tension and intensity builds as the story unfolds culminating in a chilling, breath taking finale. I really enjoyed this book and would happily read more books written by this author in the future.
