BLOG TOUR,BOOK REVIEW - The Closer You Get by Mary Torjussen

Ruby had butterflies in her stomach and was a mixed bag of nerves and excitement as she drove to the hotel on the fateful Friday evening that her life was destined to go into freefall. She had finally left her controlling husband Tom and was on her way to meet her lover Henry. They had planned to run away and start their lives again.

But after spending the whole weekend in the hotel with her feelings fluctuating between anger and concern she realises that Henry isn't going to turn up. And things go from bad to worse when she goes to work on the Monday morning and learns that she no longer has a job.

now she has no husband,no home and no.job, Ruby doesn't think things can get any worse but little does she realise that someone else knows about the affair. Someone who has been watching her and is determined to punish her. And they are even closer than she thinks.

The chapters of this riveting thriller flip flopped between Ruby and Henry's wife Emma, two diverse characters who each had their own unique personalities and quirks. I can't say that I had any sympathy for any of the main characters in this book. I can't stand people who cheat, there is no excuse, they are selfish and never stop and think about the hurt that other people will feel when the truth is inevitably revealed. To be honest I quite quickly got fed up with Ruby and her one woman pity party, her constant feel sorry for me attitude, talk about playing the victim card. But who was terrorising her,was it Emma, the wronged wife, Tom,the manipulative husband, Sarah who was Ruby's friend, was it possible that Josh wasn't as innocent as he appeared, was someone else playing with her head or was her paranoia and anxiety causing her imagination to run away with her?

This is a tightly plotted, well written domestic drama / thriller that draws the reader in from the first page and encourages you to want to spend your time in the author's realistic characters fictional lives. It had unexpected twists and turns, some intense moments, some unreliable, untrustworthy characters and the plot kept the reader guessing and totally engaged with the story. I love this very talented author's thrillers, they are consistently Fantastic reads and this one was no exception. Very very highly recommended
