BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - Road To Mercy (Shannon Ames #2) by T.J.Brearton

                                                                  BOOK DESCRIPTION

One terrifying abduction. Two scared kids. One desperate fugitive.

Struggling with the guilt she feels for shooting and killing a drug dealer during her freshman case, Special Agent Shannon Ames is thrown back in the deep end when former federal prosecutor Lucy Donato goes missing.

The case takes a surprising turn when Lucy’s bookish husband Bob is caught on camera fleeing the state with his two small children. Has he done something to his wife? Is he a danger to the kids?

There’s definitely something off about Bob, because it soon becomes clear he isn’t stopping for anyone. He’s smart, he’s ruthless, and he steamrolls over anyone who gets in his way.

Desperate to protect the kids, Shannon pursues Bob cross-country, following a trail of stolen cars, brutal bar fights, and dangerous drug dealers. But something isn’t sitting right with her – why would a meek office worker suddenly blaze a trail of chaos across several states? What does he want? Where is he going?

The answer to those questions is truly shocking and puts Shannon at the heart of a case she’ll never forget…

A intense cross country chase, a complex case that is packed full of dead ends and red herrings, a desperate man on the run with his terrified young children and a damaged FBI agent who has to figure it all out before time runs out and innocent lives are lost. The chapters of this fast paced thriller alternated between FBI agent Shannon Ames and little Lily Donato and most of them ended in way that gave the reader a very bad case of just one more chapter syndrome. Shannon was a feisty, likeable character who was struggling to recover both physically and mentally from events that occurred during her previous case. She was also haunted by a shocking event in her past, a incident that had caused a rift between Shannon and her mother. She wasn't perfect, she made mistakes but these flaws made her character more relatable and realistic. I definitely liked Shannon a lot more than I liked hot headed, short tempered agent Bufort. I really liked how respectful other police officers were towards Shannon whenever she interacted with other forces during the gripping and action packed pursuit of Bob and his children. The chapters that were narrated from Lily's perspective were intense and really pulled at the reader's heart strings at times. The author's depictions of a young girl's confusion and fear as she struggled to understand what was going on and why her daddy was behaving in the way that he was were so realistic. But why had Bob gone on the run? Was he involved in the kidnapping of his wife and son or was he a innocent pawn who had been forced to participate in a unknown person's twisted game.

This is a well written, fast paced thrill ride, a action packed page turner that contains all the elements that a fan of genre hopes to find when they read a thriller. I found myself drawn into the story from the first page and totally captivated by the breath taking action, twists and turns that were unfolding before my eyes. I loved this book and the author's flawed, feisty heroine and I look forward to reading more of Shannon Ames adventures in the future.
