BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - Her Sister's Child by Alison James

                                                                  BOOK DESCRIPTION

She rolls over and reaches for her instinctively: her baby. Her hand hits air and flaps redundantly. She stumbles out of bed and switches on the light. But this only confirms it. The baby is gone. Someone has taken her.

Sixteen years ago, Lizzie Armitage woke to find her newborn baby gone. Just days later, Lizzie was dead.

Her sister Paula swore she would do everything she could to find the child. If she hadn’t promised to keep Lizzie’s pregnancy secret, maybe the baby wouldn’t have disappeared. And maybe Lizzie would still be alive. But, in nearly a decade, Paula’s never found any trace. Until now…

When Paula bumps into an old friend from the past, she realises she wasn’t the only one who knew about her sister’s child. Someone knows what happened that day. Someone knows where Lizzie’s baby went.

But can Paula find out the truth before another family is ripped apart?

A twisty, unputdownable psychological thriller that will keep you hooked until the last page. Fans of Behind Closed Doors, Friend Request and The Girl on the Train will love Her Sister’s Child.

This intricately plotted mystery is set in two time frames, the present day and sixteen years in the past and is narrated from the perspectives of three vivid, diverse women Paula (Lizzie's sister) Charlie ( a schoolgirl) and  Marian (A social worker) Each women was a individual in her own right with her own individual personality and character traits. It's a tale that covers a wide range of emotions and issues from love and obsession to mental health and deception. Paula had tried to tell people back when her Lizzie died that her sister was pregnant but she had only been child and everyone had insisted that the pregnancy was a figment of her imagination. She has always believed that she was right and now, sixteen years later, her old friend and school girl crush Johnny is offering to help her uncover the truth. But can she trust him or does he have his own ulterior motives for being so readily available to help her? All the thriller fans are sat shocking their heads and sighing at this point. I mean, sixteen years have past and he suddenly turns up and wants to play detective with her, very suspicious, don't you think? Charlie was sixteen that limbo stage in life between being a child and being a woman and is about to find herself thrust into the adult world of decisions and responsabilities. She was a really likeable character and I couldn't help admiring her determination to live her life the way she wanted. But some of her decisions involving her obnoxious befriend Toby had me shaking my head and wanting to scream at her don't do it. Poor Charlie's lifeboat going the way she hoped that it would and just when she thinks that things couldn't get any worse, her young life offline apart for a second time when she makes a shocking discovery. Marian was a complex, troubled individual,on the outside she was just a average woman with a husband and A career as a social woman. But Marian had a obsession, she felt that there was something missing in her life, something that would repair the crumbling walls of her marriage and make her life complete. When she finds herself faced with the perfect opportunity to make her wishes come true, she makes a decision that will affect multiple lives. A decision that she will learn to regret and discover that very often dreams do not live up to their reality.

This is a cleverly written, intricately plotted story that had me totally captivating and frantically turning the pages. I thought it was ingenious how the author pulled all the threads and characters together so they were all in their correct positions for the final shocking confrontation. This talented author's words cause the reader to experience a wide range of emotions as the story unfolds and the realistic characters play out their various roles. This is a very gripping read that is definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year. Thrilling, enthralling charged and very highly recommended.
