BOOK DESCRIPTION
Clinical psychologist Dr Emma-Jane Glass falls for her captor when the roles of client and therapist are reversed in a psychologically layered story of revenge and grief. Is it a case of Stockholm Syndrome, or something else?
When Dr Emma-Jane Glass’ interview on local radio is deemed to be sympathetic towards a mother’s actions to kill herself and young child, Drew Rogers hatches a plan to teach the psychologist a thing or two about being left behind as a spouse.
Abducted and held captive in an empty property, Dr Glass swaps places in the psychologist’s chair. Drew puts the motivation of his wife’s actions down to his extra-marital affairs, but then the sordid truth behind his family’s disappearance is revealed.
Hard-hitting and emotional, Dr Glass is the first novel in the Glass Minds Series from the author of Rachel's Garden, The Entrepreneur, Willow Weeps and Rosie Shadow.
Emma - Jane had been treating a man called Drew Rogers who had lost his wife and young son in tragic circumstances. Drew is handsome and charming but he is also not who he appears to be and is hiding his true intentions behind a mask. Drew has decided that Emma - Jane needs to be taught a lesson so he kidnaps Emma - Jane and takes her to one of his properties where the therapist becomes the patient. Drew subjected Emma - Jane to some shocking and degrading treatment in his quest to convert her into seeing things from his point of view. Terrified and humiliated Emma - Jane tried to use everything that she was taught during her training to outwit her captor but as time passes she begins to have difficulty differentiating her conflicting feelings for Drew. She begins to wonder if she is suffering from Stockholm Syndrome or could she possibly be developing feelings for him? These parts of the story were uncomfortable to read at times but also thought provoking, whose point of view was right, Drew's or Emma's or did they both have a valid point?
Meanwhile, despite having her own issues to deal with, Lucy has become concerned about her friend and began a desperate search to uncover Emma - Jane's whereabouts. Will Lucy be able to figure out Drew's involvement in her friend's disappearance and rescue her? Will Emma - Jane be the same person she was before her abduction and will their friendship be strong enough to survive her conflicting feelings for Drew?
Dr Glad is the first book in what looks like is going to be a brilliant series. It's a hard hitting, thought provoking, character driven story that covers a wide range of complex mental and physical health issues. The author has written about the issues used in her plot with care and sensitivity. The characters were a mixed bag of realistic, believable characters, some likeable, some not so likeable. I thought this was a enthralling, entertaining read and I look forward to the next book in this series.
