BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - Dark Water Sacrifice by Zach Lamb

                                                                 BOOK DESCRIPTION

A parent’s guilt. Desperate choices. The ultimate cost.

The dark water has always called to the Blackwell family.

Devastated by the loss of his daughter, Adam Blackwell flees his hometown of Scarsville, Georgia.

Something lurks beneath the churning black waters, and its patience is running out.

Two years later, his father is dead and has left him everything, including the lake where Adam’s daughter drowned. Now, Adam must return to the last place he ever wanted to go and settle the affairs of the man he blames for everything.

The time has come for the next sacrifice, and it will stop at nothing.

Adam believes it will be a short trip to get the house ready for sale. But the closer he gets to the lake, the more memories return from the worst day of his life.

Living in the past is dangerous, but there is nowhere to hide when the past comes back for you.

Staying in the family home, Adam hears small footsteps in the dark. Soon after, he hears the voice of his daughter. She wants him to join her in the depths of the black lake.

When the waters rise, Adam must decide whether he will begin the slow process of healing and somehow find peace between the world of the living and the dead—or become the next Dark Water Sacrifice…

After the tragic disappearance of his young daughter Grace Ann had caused him to abandon his wife Helen, father Phil and brother Brian and run away, Adam Blackwell had sworn that he would never return to the small town of Scarsville in Georgia where he had grown up. But after Phil dies and leaves his house and land to Adam, he is forced to return to the old house and sort out his father's affairs. Adam had always blamed his father for Grace Ann's death and didn't give a damn about the house or the land which was situated near the lake where his daughter had disappeared, he just wanted to get everything sorted as quickly as possible and get back to his life in Chicago. But life is never that simple and even before Adam arrived at his destination he starts experiencing strange visions and hallucinations. Adam swiftly finds himself trapped in a nightmare that haunts him wether he is awake or asleep. Unbeknownst to Adam, a powerful, ancient evil has plans for him, a sacrifice has to be made and Adam is its chosen victim. Adam had unknowingly escaped once before, is he strong enough for the battle ahead of us he destined to become one of the lost souls who are trapped within the dark waters of the lake?

This spine chilling story is narrated predominantly from the perspective of Adam, a character who was quick difficult to like at times due to his attitude and sarcastic comments. Although he did have some redeemable qualities one of which being that he had obviously loved and adored Grace Ann. Grief is a complex, complicated emotion and no body can predict how they are going to react especially after the alleged death of a young child. Adam dealt with his grief by running away from his problems which is something that many people actually do in reality. Was he also hoping to leave his feelings of guilt over what happened behind as well? Was Adam's insistence of pointing the finger of blame at Phil his way of projecting his feelings of guilt away from himself so he didn't have to deal with his guilty conscience?

The residents of Scarsville were a eclectic mix of realistic individuals, the main characters being Adam's ex wife Helen, Sheriff Brown and Adam's brother Brian, all of whom I thought were quite irritating for different reasons. There was also Vernon Barlow who basically owned the town including the land adjacent to Adam's and wasn't very happy that Phil had refused to sell his land to him. And then there was my number one favourite character, The one and only Darryl or big D as he called himself, tow truck driver and local ladies man (in his head anyway) Ok, he had a bit of a high opinion of himself and was a bit of a perv but I thought he was a wonderful character.

Omg, this book is absolutely bloody incredible, a extremely well written, perfectly paced blend of human drama, thriller and spine chilling horror and suspense that hooks the reader in from the first page. It's a captivating story about the power of grief, a parent's love for their child and how much  they are prepared to sacrifice in the name of that love. I would love to watch a film or tv adaptation of this brilliant book. Worth far more than five stars and very very highly recommended.
