                                                                 BOOK DESCRIPTION

A secret video tape. A painful truth. A quest for revenge.

Investigative journalist, Susan ‘Stripe’ McLachlan, is constantly hounded by eager documentarians for interview requests about the Night Scrawler murders. One of the victims of the mysterious serial killer was a member of her own family, her father.

At the peak of her career, her services are sought by Isaac Payne who commissions her to write an article for his website. Usually, her projects delve into more uncomfortable, questionable topics, but there’s a deep, almost hauntingly familiar pull about her new client that intrigues her.

As she learns more about Isaac, Stripe digs up fresh secrets about the murders, arousing her suspicions. After an awkward confrontation, she wakes up in Isaac’s bed — with a chain around her ankle.

Isaac shows her harrowing footage on an old VHS tape. The contents hits close to home… closer than Stripe ever imagined. Now , she has to wrestle with her own moral compass and unpick the truth from the web of lies that turn into a crescendo where memories created from misery and suffering cannot be silenced.

Will Isaac ever lay the past to rest? And how will Stripe cope with the revelations that challenge everything she has ever known?

Right, deep breath, ok, here we go

Firstly, what the HELL did I just finished reading???

It's definitely a mesmerising, dark and at times disturbing story that is written in four parts and from the perspectives of multiple characters, it is also set in different years and the plot very often slips back and forth in time.

The main character and from whose point of view the story is predominantly narrated is no nonsense investigative journalist Susan 'Stripes' McLachlan, a feisty individual whose life had been torn apart many years ago just before she graduated from school when her father was murdered by the notorious serial killer The Night Scrawler. Now at the peak of her career, Stripe's life is about to be torn apart again after her services are sought by handsome Isaac Payne who commissions her to write a article about his website. Almost from the moment that she meets him, Stripe's gets the uncanny feeling that she has meet Isaac before. The first meeting goes well but after Stripe's goes to his home for their second meeting, she suddenly finds herself caught up in a terrifying nightmare. Isaac tells her the horrific story of his childhood, a recounting of events that are so sickening and depraved, they could be the plot to a horror movie. What Isaac is telling her couldn't possibly be true.....could it? Could she trust Isaac or was he playing cruel mind games with her? If what he is saying is true, then some of the things that Stripe believed about her past were lies. Stripe is determined to uncover the truth but the more she digs, the more twisted the story becomes. I thought Stripe was a fantastic character, the author's portrayals of her conflicting emotions and feelings throughout the story were very realistic. I wasn't sure how I felt about Isaac, there was times when I trusted him and times when I didnt.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Stripe her every move is being observed by a mysterious, sinister individual, someone who is patiently biding their time, waiting for the perfect opportunity to put their perfectly plotted plans into action.

This story is intricately plotted, has a cast of diverse individuals and some unexpected twists and turns. The plot is a complex blend of horror, sci-fi, the supernatural and thriller with a added dash of romance and a few sexually erotic scenes and if you wish to enjoy the story to its full potential then I advice that you really take notice and concentrate on what you are reading. One of the plot lines is highly relevant and relatable to modern society and I thought that the Author wrote about the issue with care and sensitivity. I thought This was a very enjoyable, thought provoking read, the story held my attention throughout from the first page right through to the (well for me anyway ...lol) confusing conclusion and I would happily read more of this author's books in the future.
