BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - Tally And The Angel (book 1) by Eleanor Dixon

                                                                 BOOK DESCRIPTION

When Tally discovers her pendant is home to the Angel Jophiel, she knows life will never be same again. But what good is an angel who won’t appear in front of others? Especially when she needs to convince her friend Balvan she knows where the kidnapped children of India are being held. Will Jophiel help Tally and Balvan escape the kidnappers’ clutches, or will they all perish?

The main character and narrator of this thrilling adventure which is the first in what looks like is going to be a brilliant addition to the teen sleuth genre but with a unique twist is Tally who is almost thirteen at the beginning of this story. Tally's beloved mother had recently passed away but before she died she had instructed Tally's father that after the funeral he was to gift Tally a letter and a box made out of beautiful orange wood. When she opened the box, Tally discovered a intricately carved pendant that was  shaped like an angel, a pendant that despite being made of stone, felt warm when she touched it. Tally was both shocked and excited when she discovered that a actually angel called Jophiel was hiding within the pendant, an being that she alone could see, hear and communicate with both verbally and telepathically. After Tally's father received a call from a colleague in India asking for his help, Tally finds herself on a plane excited about the opportunity to see a new country and the unknown adventures that lie ahead. Little does she realise the dangerous and life threatening situations that she and her new friend Balvan will find themselves in whilst investigating her first thrilling mystery.

Tally was a typical, realistic pre teen, moody one minute, happy the next and boy did she have one hell of a temper. She was also a very likeable, feisty, stubborn, caring individual who was determined to find out what had happened to the missing children. I loved how quickly she trusted and accepted Jophiel into her life although I did wonder if she saw him as a substitute for her father considering the fact that he appeared to spend all his time at the hospital. Or was it just a case that she could tell the Angel about her plans knowing that there was absolutely nothing that he could do to stop her. To be honest, there was times when I doubted Jophiel's true intentions and wondered if he was a force for good or evil.

At the start of each chapter there was parts of the story that were written in italics and told Jophiel's background story from the time that he was cast out of heaven until when the pendant was gifted to Tally's mother.

As well as being a thrilling mystery, the story is also a educational read that gives the reader a insight into the culture and history of India including some interesting information about the four towers that guard the corners of the Taj Mahal.

This is a extremely well written, thrilling and at times dark and intense mystery with a added dash of fantasy that had me hooked in from the first page and glued to my kindle. Tally was a fantastic character who's guts and determination reminded me of my favourite fictional teen detective Nancy Drew. I really really enjoyed this gripping, addictive read and I look forward to reading many more of Tally's adventures in the future.

My school life was spent in a girls’ boarding-school specialising in classical ballet and on leaving I danced professionally, touring Europe, for 4 years. After that I ran my own ballet school in Athens, Greece and simultaneously volunteered as a veterinary nurse, as my love of animals is the driving force in my life. I returned to England with my horse and my cat, and now live on a smallholding in Shropshire with various farm animals and a constant stream of pets.

I started writing while in Greece and completed a Creative Writing Course with the Writers’ Bureau. The same year, I won an annual competition in the Writing Magazine for an adult Fairy Story.

On my return to England , I wrote two children’s books, but my new life, caring for Highland Cattle, sheep , hens and pets, coupled with extensive global travel, meant that writing for publication took a back seat. I continued my love of writing with a daily journal and amusing travel blogs of each trip.

I am now writing full time and TALLY AND THE ANGEL is the first of a planned series . Their next adventure takes place in Canada, in North Yukon and the third in Japan. I intend them to have adventures in Greece, Egypt, Peru, Africa – anywhere I have been, really.

My first book THE GRACEFUL GHOST is shortlisted for the UK Selfies 2021 Award.
