BLOGTOUR, BOOK REVIEW - The Devil's Shadow by BJ Edwards

                                                                 BOOK DESCRIPTION

In a vault beneath the Mediterranean Sea, a creature from myth and folklore sleeps. Government agents David Coswell and Hannah Martin join forces to find and study the creature with the hopes of harnessing its power for their country’s good. Accidentally, they release the creature and London is plunged into chaos. Lawlessness and hedonism spread as Lord of the Flies regains his strength and uses violence and fear to build his new kingdom.

David Coswell, along with his ‘handler’ Sentinel Nutbeam, retired soldier Nigel Carter, and Spanish matriarch Maria Perez help the Prime Minister confront the beast and take back control of a fractured country.

The Devil’s Shadow is a fast-paced supernatural thriller. Sometimes scary, sometimes sexy and always exciting, it is an absorbing tale of friendship, loyalty, faith and belief.

Written from the perspectives of numerous, realistic, vivid individuals, this is a fast paced, chilling story about the age old battle between the forces of good and evil. The powers that be (who never appear to learn their lesson) have, with the help of David Coswell and Hannah Martin released a powerful ancient evil onto the streets of London causing scenes that could have been taken from any of The Purge series of films. Countless acolytes, lead by the woman who rather naively believes that she is going to be able to control a powerful entity are swarming the streets causing mass destruction, devastation and fornicating at every opportunity. As the creature grew in strength and power, the forces for good, reluctantly lead by David Coswell struggled to figure out a way to defeat the forces of evil before time ran out on mankind. The problem with battling a supernatural force is that the lines between good and evil can become blurred, people can be deceitful, swap sides and betray the people around them. The good side consisted of some fantastic characters,my absolute favourite being big deadly bear Nigel Carter, I also loved elderly matriarch Maria Perez, a very intelligent woman who had many hidden talents and secrets. I even ended up liking Sentinel Nutbeam just a tiny bit by the end of the story.

This extremely well written, scarily believable blend of thriller, horror, the supernatural with a very large dose of erotica is written in six parts and has scenes that are set in Spain, London and at Stonehenge. Elements of the plot were very reminiscent of brilliant Children Of The Stones and Quatermass the mini series from the 1970s with it's references to cults, ley lines, stone circles, mind control, religion and unearthly powers. The story was intricately plotted and contained a eclectic mix of diverse, relatable characters. From the way this book ended, it appears that the author could be planning on writing a sequel which I hope he is because I personally would love to revisit these characters again.
