BLOGTOUR, BOOK REVIEW - The Face At The Window by Ruby Speechley

                                                                 BOOK DESCRIPTION

They’re in your house.

They want your life.

And now, they have your baby.

To the world, I’m @HappyWife. Online, people only see my picture-perfect home, my handsome husband, Nick, and my beautiful baby, Thomas.

They don’t see the real Gemma Adams. They don’t see my past, the dark secrets I’m hiding in my marriage. They don’t see the fear I live in every single day.

But I know someone is watching me. And now, they’ve taken Thomas.

I just don’t know why.

But I’m going to stop at nothing to get my baby back.

Even if it destroys everything I’ve got to find him.

A compelling thriller, packed with suspense - fans of K.L. Slater and Lisa Jewell won't be able to put it down.

The chapters of this captivating thriller alternated between the perspectives of Gemma and Scarlett and slipped back and forth between the present day and the past starting twenty three days before baby Thomas's abduction. To the people who viewed the pictures that she posted on social media, Gemma appeared to live a perfect life with her handsome husband Nick and gorgeous baby Thomas which was exactly what she wanted people to believe. In reality her dream life was a living nightmare of walking in eggshells and abuse. Like many abuses women, Gemma had hoped that Nick would change after the baby was born but she swiftly discovered that as in reality that was never going to happen. As well as living in constant fear of her husband, Gemma kept getting the unsettling feeling that she was being watched. Then, one day whilst she was doing some shopping, baby Thomas is abducted in his pram, who would abduct her beloved baby and why? Would she ever hold him in her arms again?

I had mixed feelings about Gemma as the story unfolded, I found her obsession with sharing posts about her apparently perfect life irritating especially considering it was all a pack of lies. No one's life is completely perfect so why did she feel the need to convince the world that she was living the dream?. But, as a parent myself, I couldn't help feeling a lot of empathy for her after Thomas was abducted. Nick was a seriously unlikable individual for various reasons who had hidden secrets and a dark and sinister past.

Scarlett was a emotionally messed up, cunning young woman who was angry and frustrated with her mother because she refused to tell Scarlett the identity of her father. With the help and encouragement of her best friend Amy, Scarlett was determined to uncover his identity. She was a complex and very often difficult to like individual who learnt a couple of very valuable life lessons by the time the book reached its conclusion.

The Face At The Window is a extremely well written, intricately plotted blend of domestic drama and thriller with a plot that covers a wide range of realistic and relatable issues. The story didn't have a very large cast of characters but the individuals who did appear were vivid and realistic. It's a addictive story that hooks the reader in from the first page, has a number of unexpected twists and turns and kept me glued to my kindle. Despite the changing timelines, the story flows with ease and is easy to follow. A gripping, entertaining read and very very highly recommended.
