BLOGTOUR, BOOK REVIEW - The Babysitter by Gemma Rogers

                                                                    BOOK SYNOPSIS

It’s every mother’s worst nightmare…All NEW from Gemma Rogers

Ali and Christopher Tolfrey's one year old daughter Eden is abducted whilst in the care of Ali’s best-friend.

Snatched in broad daylight from Bushy Park on a trip to the swings, Eden disappears without a trace.

Brooke Simmons , regains consciousness, dazed from a blow to the head, to find Eden, her bestfriends’ child is missing.

Someone has taken Eden and Brooke knows who.

But it's a secret she can't share with Ali or the Police without revealing the web of deceit she's spun.

Can Brooke get Eden home before her lies come back to haunt her? Or is the net closing in on her?

The chapters of this gritty, intense thriller are voiced from the perspectives of Brooke (The babysitter) Ali (The mother of one year old Eden and a character called Jimmy who is the individual who had kidnapped little Eden. We know from early in the story that Brooke and Jimmy had a history together and that he is behind Eden's disappearance but the question is why had he kidnapped a innocent baby? Was it a kidnap for ransom? Was Eden kidnapped on demand or was there more personal reasons behind Jimmy's actions? Brooke knew that Jimmy had taken Eden and why but would she be able to get the baby back before the police uncovered the truth and the all lies that she had concocted?

Meanwhile, Eden's parents Ali and Christopher find themselves caught up in every parent's worst nightmare, their beloved baby daughter is missing, the police are digging into every corner of their lives, asking endless questions but never appearing to uncover any useful leads despite the couple being trust into the media limelight during a press conference. Like many parents, I have experienced the heart stopping moment when you lose sight of your child and the massive rush of relief when you catch sight of them again. It's absolutely terrifying when it happens for a short time so I hate to imagine the terror and fear that a parent must experience when their child completely disappears. I really liked Ali and I thought that the author's portrayals of her fear and the roller coaster of emotions that she experienced were realistic and relatable. There was a number of times when I wanted to reach into my kindle, pat her on the back and say, 'yay, you tell them, girl'. I can't say that I thought that Christopher was a very likeable individual for various reasons.

The chapters that featured James were uncomfortable to read at times, his behaviour and actions becoming more unpredictable as the story unfolded. He was the soul carer for a innocent baby and even Brooke wasn't sure if little Eden was safe with him or not. James wasn't a very likeable individual whose actions were most definitely wrong but once the whole truth was revealed, I couldn't help feeling a tiny bit of sympathy for him.

The Babysitter is a extremely well written, gripping, addictive thriller that hooks the reader in from the first page and has a plot that keeps you captivated and glued to your kindle. The cast of characters were vivid and realistic and the fast paced plot contained some unexpected twists, turns and a touch of poetic justice that would raise some interesting questions during a book group discussion. This is the first book that I have read that was written by this author and it most definitely will not be my last. A very enjoyable, entertaining read and very very highly recommended.
