(In no particular order) My Favourite Books Of 2021

 Hi Book peeps, I have read and enjoyed some really really good books this year and here,in no particular order are my stand out favourites. I hope everyone has a fantastic Christmas and best wishes for the new year. Take care and stay safe.


This is a thought provoking,dark, captivating read that has a cast of vivid, relatable characters, a number of whom I still had mixed feelings about once I had finished the book. I think this story would raise some interesting questions and discussions if it was read by a book group. Very very highly recommended


Wow....just wow, I loved this fast paced, intense, atmospheric thrill ride that hooks the reader in from the first page, keeps you captivated and hardly gives you a opportunity to draw in a breath as the story rockets along towards its mind blowing, unexpected conclusion. I love books that are based in isolated locations especially where the characters are cut off from civilisation and have no way of summoning help. I loved the author's descriptions of the island with its numerous hiding places, deadly cliffs the waves crashing on the rocks and the old lighthouse that stood guard over the island. I would love to watch a film or tv adaptation of this, addictive suspense packed story, worth far more than five stars, very very highly recommended and definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.


This is a extremely well written, debut y/a thriller that rockets along faster than a wildfire that is caught in a gust of wind. It's a gripping, addictive read that had me hooked in from the first page and so captivated that I read the whole book in one sitting. I would love to watch a film or tv adaptation of this incredible book. Worth all the stars and more, very very highly recommended and definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year


Wow....just wow, there aren't enough superlatives in the English language to describe how much I loved this extremely well written,intricately plotted, very clever, addictive thriller. A absolutely, fantastic, brilliant read, worth all the stars and more and very very highly recommended. This is definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.


Omg, wow...just wow, this book is absolutely bloody incredible, it's a intricately plotted,character driven, gripping, intense, thought provoking, addictive read that had me hooked in from the first page. I was so captivated by this debut story that I didn't want to put my kindle down and read the whole book in one sitting. The truth was gradually revealed like the colours of the unfurling leaves on the trees as the author pulled all the threads of her story together. I would love to watch a film or tv adaptation of this brilliant book and look forward to reading many more of this author's books in the future. If I could, I would give this book far more than five stars. Very very highly recommended and definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.


Omg, I thought this books was absolutely bloody incredible, a beautifully written, atmospheric,intense, suspense packed thriller that contained all the elements that I wish to find in a thriller. The isolated setting, the castle, the forest and the loch were intricately described with enough detail that you could close your eyes and place yourself there in your head. As with some human beings, mother nature can also be so beautiful and yet she also has a destructive side, a hidden darkness that can cause life changing devastation. The women were a diverse group of realistic individuals,each with their own unique personalities and character traits. I would love to watch a film or tv adaptation of this unputdownable, addictive read that is worthy of all the stars and more and very very highly recommended. I loved this book and it's definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.


Omg,Wow...just wow, this book is absolutely bloody incredible, it's a fast paced, unputdownable, gripping thriller that is written in short, snappy chapters that give the reader a very bad case of just one more chapter syndrome. I would have read the whole book in one sitting but unfortunately my old eyes had other ideas. It's ingenious plotted, keeps the reader guessing,has a number of unexpected mind blowing, jaw dropping twists and a very satisfying, realistic conclusion. Louise Jensen is a very talented author who I think has excelled herself with this latest book. Worth far more than five stars, very very highly recommended and my absolute favourite read of this year so far

There was numerous realistic characters who could have known what had happened to Lottie and the truth when it was revealed was a genuinely, unexpected mind blowing shock. I would love to watch a film adaptation of this addictive thriller, worth all the stars and more and very very highly recommended


I can fully understand why this beautifully written,captivating story had been be commissioned for a tv adaptation and I really hope they do justice to the gripping story and the intricacies of the plot. It's a story about families, acceptance, love and revenge that hooks the reader in from the first page, keeps you guessing and frantically turning the pages. It has a cast of vivid, realistic characters and a heart warming, satisfying conclusion. I thought this was a very enjoyable, entertaining thriller and would happily read more of this author's books in the future.


Wow....Just wow, this is an extremely well written, fast paced, roller coaster ride that hardly gives the reader an opportunity to breathe as you, Jack, Matty and Ava are launched from one life threatening situation to another. It's an intense, thrilling page turner that is packed full of danger that had me glued to my copy of the book, with the wonderful tree branches in the corner of each page I found myself frantically turning the pages. The secondary characters were a mixed bag of diverse, realistic individuals, many of whom were not very likeable and the story that covers a wide range of emotions and issues had a heart warming and unexpected conclusion. I would love to watch a film adaptation of this outstanding debut that is worth far more than five stars and is very very highly recommended. This is definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.


This extremely well written, ingenious thriller is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma and I absolutely bloody loved it. I was totally captivated from the first page,drawn into the author's character's,realistic world and mesmerised by her words. The dark,serious issues covered within the plot were written about with care, understanding and sensitivity. I really, really enjoyed this spine chilling read, worthy of all the stars and many more and very very highly recommended.

It was perfectly paced,kept me guessing and the identity of the killer was a genuine mind blowing shocking twist. If I could I would give it far more than five stars. The chapters were short and snappy and many ended in a way that gave me a very bad case of just one more chapter syndrome. The author has created a fantastic cast of  recurring characters,individuals that worm their way into your heart and make you care about them. Although this is the eighth book in a series,it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. I really enjoyed this book and I would give it more than five stars if I could. This is definitely one of my favourite reads of this year so far. Very very highly recommended

The story had me hooked in from the first page and glued to my kindle, I honestly couldn't put this addictive thriller down and read the whole book in one sitting. Gillian McAllister's thrillers are always extremely well written,have casts of vivid, realistic characters and unexpected twists and turns, I'm happy to say That Night is no exception. Worth all the stars and more and very very highly recommended.

This is a extremely well written, debut thriller with a plot that covers a myriad of relatable subjects, the characters were well rounded and believable, it was a intense and uncomfortable read at times, thought provoking, had some unexpected twists and turns and had a spine chilling conclusion. Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down, I wanted to know what was going on and why this person was targeting Emmy and her family?. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of this author's books in the future.

It's a mesmerising story that hooks the reader in from the first page, keeps you captivated and frantically turning the pages. The scenes and settings are described in such vivid detail that there are times when you can physically feel the rain on your skin and the cold of the snow chilling your bones. I loved this enthralling read and would give it far more than five stars if I could. Very very highly recommended and definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.


I absolutely bloody loved this incredible book, it's extremely well written and very very funny but the story also has its serious moments. I really really enjoyed this journey through the misadventures of Brian Dawes and his friends and would love to read a sequel. Very very highly recommended and definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year. The Beresford is a extremely well written, fast paced, addictive read that rockets along due to its short, snappy chapters that give the captivated reader a very bad case of just one more chapter syndrome. It's a dark and mesmerising blend of horror, psychological thriller and religion with a added dash of humour that had me glued to my kindle from the first page. The thought provoking plot raises questions about the existence of God and the devil, good vs evil and heaven and hell. I really really enjoyed this suspenseful, gripping read and think it's worth far more than five stars, very very highly recommended and definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.

It's a emotionally charged,character driven, perfectly paced story that has a cast of realistic,diverse characters, some likeable,some not so likeable and some genuinely unexpected twists and turns. I would love to watch a film or tv adaptation of this unputdownable thriller and if I could, I would give it many more than five stars. Very very highly recommended and definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.


This is only a short story but, oh boy, the author has certainly packed a lot into its 77 pages. It's fast paced, gripping, seriously spine chilling at times and has all the intensity and atmosphere of the original, classic story. I really liked the way that the author didn't bog down the flow of his story by including pages of difficult to understand and confusing  science and technology information. I really enjoyed this enthralling story and look forward to reading book 2 Lake On The Moon.


This is a extremely well written thriller that had me hooked in from the first page and caused me to experience a wide range of conflicting emotions as the emotionally charged and at times shocking story unfolded before my captivated eyes. The plot covers a wide range of hard hitting issues and I think.that the story would raise some interesting discussions if it was read by a book group. I really enjoyed this outstanding chilling thriller and look forward to reading more of this author's books in the future. Worth all the stars and more and very very highly recommended.


 This is a very cleverly written domestic drama/thriller that hooks the reader in from the first page. The twists,turns,clever misdirections and red herrings keep the reader guessing and glued to your kindle. I really enjoyed this captivating read, I haven't read any of this author's previous books and I look forward to reading more in the future.


Wow...just wow, this extremely well written, cleverly and intricately plotted thriller is absolutely bloody incredible. It keeps you captivated from the first page as you hurtle through the various twists and turns of the fast paced story that hardly gives you a chance to breath as you frantically turn the pages. The author had said that he was worried because he had taken a risk with this story. I think that he had excelled his own very high standards of writing with this edge of your seat thriller and I hope that he plans to write more like this one in the future. I really really loved this book and would give it far more than five stars if I could. Very very highly recommended and definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.
