A dark, twisty thriller which will grip you until the very last page.

OMG

I certainly don't mean this is a bad way but WHAT THE HELL have i just finished reading????

This cleverly plotted blend of multiple genre's opens with a creepy short chapter in which a sinister individual called The Watcher advises people not to ask too many questions. Then, in chapter one, we are introduced to Lauren, a complex character and the main voice of a vast majority of the ensuing story. After receiving a panic laden voicemail from her best friend Jess in which she questioned if Lauren had seen that day's news and working up the courage to check the headlines in her phone, Lauren is shocked to discover that a woman called Tina Jameson had mysteriously disappeared. We then learn that Tina used to be a member of Lauren and Jess's friendship group along with another character called Claire but something had happened in the past which had caused a rift between Lauren and Tina. Overcome with crippling feelings of guilt and despite her own vulnerabilities,Lauren is determined to uncover what the truth behind her former friend's disappearance. But, unbeknownst to Lauren, she and her remaining friends are the pawns in more than one enemies game of manipulation and deception and her quest for answers will lead her down some unexpected, dangerous paths. But, who were the puppet masters? Was there anyone in her life that Lauren could truly trust? Who was the mysterious talk man with the laptop who appeared to be stalking her? Could we really trust Lauren's version of events or were her mental health issues causing her to experience unfounded feelings of paranoia and anxiety?

As the story unfolded,we discovered that Lauren wasn't the only character who lived with mental health issues. Scattered throughout the book was extracts from Time's blog that have the reader a insight into her thoughts about different subjects and the various characters in her life including Lauren, Jess and Claire. Tina was a deeply troubled individual, who like many of us had made mistakes in the past but what had caused the rift between herself and the group of friends? Had Tina vanished voluntarily or were there more dark and sinister reasons behind her disappearance?ere

The plot of this gripping story covers a wide range of relatable issues and is packed with red herrings, untrustworthy characters and has a spine chilling, sinister and unpredictable conclusion. The story had me captivated from the first page, kept me guessing and trying to figure out what the HELL was going on. The author's portrayals of the effect that Lauren and Time's mental health issues had on their thoughts, actions and demeanours were realistic and relatable and written with care and sensitivity. This story ended up going in a direction that I certainly didn't see coming, has resulted in mixed reactions from other reviewers and would raise some interesting discussions if it was read by a book group. I loved this book and thought it was a brilliant start to the new year. Very highly recommended by little old me.
