Judith Wants To Be Your Friend by Annie Weir
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Judith wants to be your friend wether you want to be or not and don't bother to tell her to leave you alone because she will just ignore you and carry on getting you sandwiches, turning up wherever you and forcing her way into your life.Basically Judith is a stalker who doesn't understand right from wrong, nothing is her fault,it's everybody else's,she is manipulative, controlling, very opinionated but also very, very clever.
The story is told using two different time frames about a year apart that eventually converge towards the end of the book, using the alternating chapters form that seems to be the norm in thrillers these days. The chapters set in the past are written in the third person and also have parts that are voiced by other characters involved in that time frame of the story. These chapters explain events that lead up to the explosive prologue at the beginning of the story while the chapters set in the present are voiced only by Judith and are about her life after the event that caused her to pack up and disappear.
The prologue does a good job of drawing the reader into the story but because you already know what is going to happen it dulls the impact of the event when it does happen. There is no explanation of why Judith thought and behaved the way that she did and as other reviewers have stated there were questions that were left unanswered.I did enjoy the book but I didn't feel any connection with any of the characters and I thought the ending was disappointing.
Thanks so much to the publishers for a arc of this book via netgalley in exchange for a honest review
