Review: The Surrogate by Louise Jensen

The Surrogate The Surrogate by Louise Jensen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Kat and her husband Nick have tried everything to become parents and are on the point of giving up.Then a chance encounter with Kat`s childhood friend Lisa gives Kat and Nick one last chance to achieve their dream.

But Kat and Lisa`s history hides dark secrets.

And there is more to Lisa than meets the eye.

As dangerous cracks start to appear in Kat`s perfect picture of happily - ever - after, she realises that she must face her fear of the past to save her family....

Opening at a crime scene in a quiet cul de sac and flipping back and forth between then and now, this gripping, twist packed thriller is mainly voiced by Kat who is a very complex and at times rather selfish character.Because you only learn about Nick in the chapters set in the past and there is no chapters that are voiced by Lisa, their present day characters are both very mysterious which adds to the readers doubts about their actions and makes you unsure wether Kat can really trust them or not.Nothing is ever what it seems in this twisted story, like a master magician Louise Jensen works her magic putting you under the illusion that you know what is going on and then Bam,she throws in a twist and you realise that you were absolutely and totally wrong and believe me,i found I was wrong about quite a number of things. The characters are realistic and totally untrustworthy, surprisingly I did feel some sympathy towards a couple of the main characters by the end of the book.

I absolutely loved this well written, twist paced, gripping tale of friendships, relationships, lies, paranoia and mistakes. The ending blew me away,it was so mind blowing and shocking, totally chilling.I think this is Louise Jensen`s best book so far and I would love to give it loads more than five stars,it is definitely going to be one of my top five books of the year.

Many thanks to Bookouture for a arc of this book via Netgalley in exchange for a honest review
