Manipulator - A person who controls or influences others in a clever or unscrupulous way.
Manipulated Lives consists of five,fictional,true to life short stories about different individuals from different walks of life who have been manipulated by others yet have eventually found the strength to move on.
Manipulators are clever,devious,calculating individuals who often are able to control their true nature,often for quite a few years until they have their victims complete trust. Then,like a switch has been flicked inside the manipulator's head,their true controlling and angry nature is revealed although the manipulator is always kind and loving in public.The swift changes in behaviour can cause the victim to doubt themselves and for others not to believe the victim if and when they speak out about what happens behind closed doors.

Three of these stories are voiced by the victim of a manipulator. In three the reader gets to read the egotistical,twisted thoughts of the manipulator. In one story you witness it slowly dawning on a mother that maybe her son is not the perfect child that she believes he is. That story raises the old nurture v nature debate. One of the stories was quite heart warming but also very sad.I did enjoy witnessing one particular nasty piece of work getting their comeuppance. Ain't Karma a hitch...lol
Books about manipulators and abuse are very often very hard to read especially ones where you get to read the actual thoughts of the manipulator themselves. It's even more thought provoking when you stop and think about the many many men,women and children who spend every day of their lives living in fear and walking on egg shells because someone they know is a manipulator. Each one of these realistic stories was well written and some were actually quite chilling. The author has definitely done a lot of research into both manipulators and how their behaviour affects the lives of their victims. Very,very good book,highly recommended by little old me.

Helene Andrea Leuschel grew up in Belgium where she gained a Licentiate inJournalism & Communication, which led to a career in radio and television in Brussels, London andEdinburgh. She now lives with her husband and two children in Portugal and recently acquired aMaster of Philosophy with the OU, deepening her passion for the study of the mind. When she is notwriting, Helene works as a freelance journalist and teaches Yoga.
