BLOG TOUR REVIEW - Duality by K.J.McGillick

Mary,Dalia,Jackson and the rest of their crack team of investigators return in the fifth instalment of the gripping Lies and Misdirection series. Only this case becomes very personal when it appears that their very own Mr Martin could be responsible for the murder of two women, one of whom just happens to be his ex wife and the disappearance of a painting which is apparently very valuable and sought after by quite a few art collectors including the Vatican.

Could they have possibly spent the last year working alongside a dangerous criminal or has Mr Martin been framed by a very cunning, ruthless enemy. Mary and Dalia don't want to believe that their quiet, gruff friend is really a wanted criminal but when all the evidence appears to point towards Mr Martin's guilt, they begin to wonder if he is not the kindly person he appears to be.

The chapters of this story alternate between Mary and Dalia's perspectives who due to Mary's stubbornness (and her infamous handbag) find themselves in Rome and butting heads with a very arrogant police chief. Mary is normally one of my favourite fictional characters but to be honest, during this story,I found myself agreeing with Jackson's opinion of her. She did at times come across as frustrating and annoying. And why was there so much attitude between Mary and Dalia throughout this book.? I haven't read the previous title in this series so maybe something happened between them previously that wasn't mentioned in this book. Interspersed throughout the story was chapters that were voiced by a mysterious woman but who was she and how did she fit into the story? As with the other titles that I have read in this series, the author has included some fascinating insights into the history of painting and the art world. Just enough background information to keep the reader informed but not so much that it bogs down the story and causes the reader to lose interest.

This is a enthralling, enjoyable addition to a well written, gripping series. Despite it being part of a series this as well as all the other books can be read and enjoyed as standalones. The story keeps you guessing, has twists, turns and danger moments and the reader is totally captivated by the thrilling mystery that is unfolding before you eyes. A very enjoyable read and I can't wait to find out what the author has planned for this wonderful cast of characters in book six.
