BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - Truth Hurts by Rebecca Reid

A whirlwind romance,a swift proposal and quiet, private wedding are very often (but not always) the prelude to a abusive relashionship, both in reality and the fictional world. Not in this book though, this is not the story of a abusive relashionship, it's the story of a apparently loving relashionship between husband and wife,Drew and Poppy who are both harbouring a secret from their pasts. By mutual agreement they have promised each other that they are not going to discuss anything that happened in their lives before they met. They have moved into house that Drew has bought them in the English countryside and are settling into their lives as a married couple. Poppy has everything she ever wanted and should be happy but as time passes she starts to feel lonely and isolated. Strange incidents start occurring when she is alone in the house and their promise not to discuss their pasts begins to appear rather one sided. Poppy begins to have doubts about her adoring husband, what is he hiding? What might he be capable of?

What is more dangerous, a secret or a lie?

Truth Hurts fits into multiple genres,it's a romance, a thriller, has a dash of mystery and a possible touch of the supernatural. The story is predominantly narrated by Poppy,a character who caused me to have mixed feelings and conflicting emotions as the story unfolded. Interspersed throughout Poppy and Drew's story are chapters that slip back in time to when Poppy was a nanny to a couple named Caroline and Jim, the layers are gradually peeled back and Poppy's secret is revealed. But was her secret? and what was Drew hiding? Was he really the gentle, caring individual that he appeared to be? I also had conflicting feelings about Poppy's best friend Gina, was she the caring friend that she appeared to be or was she also harbouring a secret. I loved the isolated setting for most of this book, the descriptions of the house, the strange incidents that plagued Poppy. The mystery of why Drew and Poppy were treated with contempt by the residents of the nearby village and local tradesmen.

This is a tightly plotted, well written,Intreguing page turner that has a number of surprising twists and turns, has a shocking conclusion and holds the readers attention throughout. The story keeps you guessing and trying to figure out what Poppy and Drew's secrets were. Truth Hurts is a very enjoyable book from a obviously very talented author and I look forward to reading more books written by this author in the future.
