Ok,here's a moral dilemma for you to think about. You're flat broke and struggling to pay your bills and suddenly a complete stranger offers you fifteen thousand pounds to go and stay at their home and paint their portrait. What would you do? Use common sense and say thanks but no thanks or accept their offer and walk straight into their perfectly orchestrated trap?
Struggling artist Charlotte finds herself facing this dilemma after she is approached on the opening day of her art exhibition by a smartly dressed man who commissions her to paint his portrait. She is welcome to come and stay at his home (Sesame Hall) for a few weeks or however long it will take,she will have the run of the place and he will pay her the going rate for the portrait. Sounds too good to be true doesn't it? That's because it is. The man,Sir Robert St John Baskerville isn't just missing the sandwiches from the picnic basket,he's missing all the whole same picnic plus the basket. The bloke is a narsassistic, deluded psychopath who is obsessed with Charlotte and is convinced that he can make her love him back. After all,his father taught him well and Rupert has ways of breaking even the strongest minds.

The chapters of this chilling thriller alternate between Charlotte, her sister Jodi and Robert in the present day. There was also chapters that slipped back in time to the 1990s when Rupert was fifteen and chronicled the interactions between an au pair named Simone,young Richard and his obnoxious father Oswald. These chapters gave the reader an insight into Rupert's background,his upbringing and a understanding of why he thought and behaved the way he did both as an adult and a child. I mean,why the hell would a fifteen year old boy need an au pair in the first place? And how could the house keeper turn a blind eye to the abuse that Oswald inflicted on young Rupert,dismissing it as just family tradition? There was definitely something seriously wrong with the members of that household. In the present day,we follow Charlotte as she arrives at Sesame Hall and slowly starts to realise that there is something seriously wrong with her host. And witness Rupert gradually tighten his hold over her,becoming more intense,manipulative and abusive as he attempted to brainwash her into loving him. Charlotte and Simone were both rather naive characters,I loved Charlotte's sister Jodi and detested Oswald and Rubert. I loved the setting for this book,the stately sounding home that looked nowhere near as stately as it sounded but had many dark and sinister secrets.
You Are Mine is a very well writen, dark,chilling story of manipulation,abuse,power,control,love and ovsession. It is a seriously intense game of cat and mouse that is unfortunately very believable and realistic. The story is quite a uncomfortable read at times and causes the reader to experience a wide range of emotions. Despite the difficult subject matter which the author has written with care and sensitivity,this is a enjoyable,gripping thriller
