BOOK REVIEW - I Will Make You Pay by Teresa Driscoll

Private Investigator Matthew Hill is back, struggling to cope with his daughter Amelie`s terrible twos and not having any cases apart from a man who insists that he keeps being visited by the little people who are planning to kidnap him. So Matthew is relived when he is contacted by Tom Steller who asks if Matthew is willing to help his girlfriend, journalist Alice Henderson who is being harassed by an unknown stalker. Matthew has never been involved in a stalker case before and is unsure if he will be able to help. But after having a meeting with heavily pregnant DI Melanie Sanders and being reminded of a stalking case from their training days that resulted in the victims death,Matthew finds that he cannot resist getting involved in Alice's case.

As the intensity of the attacks on Alice escalate and her stalker starts targeting Alice's frail mother,Matthew and Melanie struggle to figure out who is terrorising her and why? Why do the attacks only happen on a Wednesday? Is it someone from her past? Someone who has been upset by an article that she wrote for her paper? Or the last person that any of them would suspect?

Can they crack the case before Alice pays the ultimate price....with her life?

The chapters of this intense thriller alternate between Matthew and Alice. I love Matthew Hill,he Is one of my favourite fictional characters,he is just so likeable for various reasons. I love the banter and the mutual respect between him and Melanie. I thought it was really sweet how patient he was with Ian and his obsession with the little people. I thought Alice was a fantastic character, feisty,a little stubborn but very determined that she wasn't going to let some sadistic creep stop her from living her life. Interspersed throughout the story there was chapters that were voiced from the point of view of a male character starting from the age of seven until he was an adult. But who was he and how did he fit into the story? This story only had a small cast of characters but there was definitely enough suspects to keep the reader guessing about the identity of Alice's antagonist.

I Will Make You Pay is a tightly plotted, page turner that keeps the reader guessing and frantically turning the pages. It's a gripping thriller that plays with the readers emotions, has quite a few twists and turns and builds in intensity as the story unfolds. I love Teresa Driscoll`s books and this one was no exception, her characters are always vivid and realistic. Her story telling enthralling and captivating, drawing the reader into her characters fictional worlds. Amazing book and very, very highly recommended.
