BLOG TOUR,BOOK REVIEW - Left For Dead by Paul J. Teague
They say that you can never escape your past, that it will always find a way to catch up with you.
Will and Charlotte Grayson had hoped that moving to Morecambe and opening their own guest house would help to revitalise their failing marriage. But Charlotte is still not sure that their moving there has been the right decision. The area conjures up mixed memories for Charlotte, happy memories of when she met Will when he started working were she was already working at Sandy Beach Holiday Camp in the nearby coastal village of Haysham. But also bad memories of her abusive relationship with her controlling ex Bruce Craven and the terrifying night on the beach when she ended up bashing his head in with a rock.
Bruce mysteriously disappeared that night,Will and Charlotte eventually got married and Charlotte felt certain that with her change of name,if Bruce was still alive,he would never be able to find her. But not long after their move to Morecambe,Charlotte receives a mysterious message on Facebook. Someone knows what happened that night, has something that she lost on the beach and wonders is Charlotte wants the item back.
Has Bruce found her and is enacting his plan for revenge? Or was someone else on the beach that night? Someone who knows her secret and plans to make her pay for events in the past?
The chapters of this riveting thriller flip back and forth between the present day and when Will and Charlotte were working at the holiday camp in 1984. The chapters set in the present day were voiced by Charlotte whilst the chapters set in the past alternated between Charlotte and Will. The characters in this book were a mixed bag of vivid likeable personalities apart from Bruce who was a very nasty, controlling bully. I loved feisty Charlotte,Isla,Nigel,Will and thought George was a wonderful character. I could fully understand Lucia and Olli's frustrations about being forced to move into a run down guest house and leave behind the schools and friends that they loved, being forced to move from somewhere that I loved is something that I have personally experienced. Many of the chapters set in the present day had some Intreguing moments and ended on a cliff hanger, these chapters were my favourite parts of the story. The chapters set in the past, were about the relationships and interactions between Charlotte,Will and the other workers at the camp and the events leading up to and what happened on the fateful night on the beach.
Left For Dead is the first book in what looks like is going to be a thrilling trilogy. The chapters set in the present day were fast paced, intense and riveting. The story keeps you guessing, there was characters who were not who they appeared to be and were harbouring secrets, there was unexpected twists and a very intense conclusion. I really enjoyed this enthralling mystery/thriller and can't wait to read what happens in the second book in the series Circle Of Lies
