BLOG TOUR,BOOK REVIEW - Tales Of The What The F*ck by D.A.Watson

Tales of the What the Fuck is a dark, touching, horrific and hilarious collection of short stories, flash fiction and epic poetry from People's Book Prize nominated author D.A. Watson. Things are about to get weird.

Here is a short review of the brilliant stories that feature in this outstanding anthology

DURTY DIANA - Gary has a brief encounter with a very seductive young lady whilst he is on the way home after a night out with the lads. Gary is tempted to give in to the young ladies charms but little does he realise that Diana is not all she appears to be. Then again neither is Gary.

COMING HOME - Frank is drowning in grief after the death two years ago of his beloved wife Anna and their young son Jacob. All he has left are his memories and the digital images on his computer monitor. Frank doesn't want to die but he also doesn't want to live without his beloved family. Meanwhile in the world on the other side, his family can't go on without him either.

MHAIRI - With her looks,or more like the lack of them, Mhairi thinks that at least her parents could have given her a nice name, but no, they had lumbered her with Mhairi Barry. So from the moment she had started school Mhairi had been relentlessly bullied. Her only respite from the cruel realities of life was the fictional world of books but then came the day when she wasn't even safe there. That was the day when Mhairi decided that she was no longer going to be a victim, she was finally going to fight back using all the knowledge that she had learned from her beloved books.

WASTED - A very topical, thought provoking poem about recycling and waste disposal.

SUCCUBUS - Colin hated having his photograph taken which was rather ironic considering he was a part time photography lecturer. He had thought setting up the photography competition would be good for his cv but he hadn't expected to receive so many entries. From all the photos that he had trawled his way through, there had only been one that really stood out. One really good shot but the person who had entered it into the competition hadn't left their details. Colin had to uncover who had taken it but did he really want to be put in the pictures?

CATHARSIS - Sometimes although you can forgive someone for ruining your life, the act of talking and sharing can only do so much. Sometime true catharsis has to be a physical act.

THE WEE MAN - This is just a story about a man reading a bedtime story to his young son. Only he's not reading any ordinary, it's not the Gruffalo or Spot The Dog and the father really doesn't want to finish the story. But it's only a story, nothing is going to happen when he gets to the end....right

JOHN - They say that he's a bit of a bore, unremarkable, plain John from next door. But if you get to know him,you will soon learn, sometimes people are not who they appear to be.

COASTERS MUSIC - A musician who hit wants to sell his guitar, takes it into a music shop where he ends up having a in-depth discussion about the value and worth of music with the strange old owner of the establishment.

TALES OF A SCORCHED EARTH - AFTERBURN - Welcome aboard scorched earth airlines. Please fasten your seatbelts, you are in for one hell of a ride.

THE CRAVIN - We all crave and enjoy things that are so called bad for us and then live to fear the consequences.

SEXTAPE - A amoral man who intends to record a sextape without his girlfriend's knowledge or permission discovers that not everyone is who they appear to be.

LISA AND ME - A date,a drive in the countryside but all is not what it appears to be.

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS - And all through the house, nothing was stirring apart from a thieving lout.

DEEP RED - The moral of this domestic drama is cheating and smoking are definitely very bad for Marthy's health.

TECH SUPPORT - Andy really should have fixed Mr Ramanathan's email issues.

THE ONES YOU LOVE - Detective Kyle Bryant was 100% convinced that the suspect was going to enter a plea of insanity. His story sounded ludicrous, things landing on the car and causing it to crash, nail marks on the car, people changing. It was all a load of crap. But Detective Bryant is about to discover that not everything is as unbelievable as it sounds.

THE LAST DAY OF JOHN LONGMIRE - John Longmire is the CEO of Kestral Technologies and a very wealthy man but he has unfortunately been diagnosed with kidney and lung cancer. Therefore he has checked himself into the most respected and costliest euthanasia clinic in the world. He had ordered his final meal but before the doctor will grant his wish to die, John has to answer a few final questions.

TAN O' SHATNER - The greys are really going to regret their close encounter with Tam O' Shatner.

RUSALKA - Ryan was understandably heart broken,he and Lesley had been in a relationship for five years she had sent him a text informing him that they were over. To try and cheer him up,his friend Chris decides to take him to Siberia,to a campsite beside a icy blue lake and surrounded by craggy forest fringed mountains. A beautiful place with hidden dangers....especially after the sun sets.

LOVE AND CABBAGE - All Gerald had ever wanted was for his beloved wife Barbara to take an interest, get involved and share in his passion for his garden.

AAAHHH!!! ZOMBIES - You might be safe from the zombie hourdes but there are other dangers that can get you whilst you are safely locked indoors.

This is a very very enjoyable collection of short stories that cause the reader to experience a wide range of emotions. Some will make you laugh, some will chill you to the bone and some will cause you to sit back and wonder WTF you have just read. I really enjoyed every one of these stories. A awesome book and very very highly recommended.

D.A. Watson was halfway through a music and media degree at the University of Glasgow and planning on being a teacher when he discovered he was actually a better writer than musician. He has since published two more novels; The Wolves of Langabhat and Cuttin' Heads, a collection of short fiction and poetry, Tales of the What the F*ck, and several acclaimed articles, poems and stories, including Durty Diana, which was nominated for a Pushcart Prize in the US in 2016, and the Burns parody Tam O' Shatner, prizewinner at the Falkirk Storytelling Festival and Dunedin Burns Poetry Competition, and nominated for the People's Book Prize in 2018.

Watson's writing has appeared in several anthologies and collections including 404 Ink, Dark Eclipse, Speculative Books, Haunted Voices and The Flexible Persona, and he is also a regular spoken word performer, with past gigs at Bloody Scotland, Tamfest, Sonnet Youth, Express Yourself, Clusterf*ck Circus, and the Burnsfest festival in 2018, where he appeared on the main stage as the warm up act for the one and only Chesney Hawkes, a personal milestone and career highlight.  His fourth novel Adonias Low will be released by Stirling Pubishing in 2021.

He lives with his family in a witch infested village on the west coast of Scotland, and continues to write some seriously weird sh*t.
