BOOK DESCRIPTION
After his life is threatened, DI Bob Dixon leaves London hoping for the quiet life in the northern village of Saltburn-by-the-Sea. But when he takes on the case of young Lizzy Scraggs, missing since a huge tide hit Saltburn six years earlier, he embarks on an investigation that will push him to the very edge of reason.
Out on the beat, Bob learns the legend of the funicular car that left the top of Saltburn’s famous cliff lift many years ago carrying two passengers, and arrived at the bottom empty save for an abandoned ticket. And every big tide since has seen another local child disappear.
Feeling increasingly manipulated by a shadowy nemesis, Bob struggles to make sense of the seemingly impossible clues before him. How can the dead live again? Who is the tortured man haunting the churchyard in nearby Marske? And with the next massive tide just hours away, can Bob solve the puzzle and bring an end to the tragedy of Saltburn’s missing children?
The last thing that Bob had been expecting when he moved to the quiet village of Saltburn-by-the-Sea was to find himself caught up in the strangest investigation of his career. A complex case of missing children, time travel, ley lines, glowing objects and mysterious figures,a case that spans back decades and will push his sanity to breaking point. Bob Dixon was a fantastic individual,a really likeable guy who continued to remain open minded despite all the unexplainable occurrences that he encountered throughout his investigation. He had a wonderful, wicked sense of humour, I lost count of the number of times that i laughed out loud at his witty comments and humorous thoughts. I loved the interactions, banter and camaraderie between Bob and his on again, off again work partner Constable Higgins (his nickname was Hurricane....lol) who was also a very likeable character.all
Most people love the seaside and I loved the setting for this book, the pier, the funicular, the lemon tops which sounded delicious, the waves crashing against the shore, the mysterious hidden cave. The residents of Saltburn-by-the-sea were a vivid set of diverse, realistic individuals, each one of them had their own individual character traits and personalities. The ones who stood out for me were Ray (the silent man) Beth (the feisty librarian) Audrey (Beth's mother) and Stephen, a mysterious character who I surprisingly felt quite a bit of sympathy for by the end of the story.
Oh boy, this extremely, well written, unique take on the good old police procedural is most definitely a riddle wrapped up in a mystery inside a enigma and I absolutely bloody loved it. It's a mesmerising blend of thriller, mystery, fantasy and the supernatural with a added dash of sci-fi that had me totally captivated and glued to my kindle. The plot contained some unexpected twists and turns and had a jaw dropping concluding twist. This is absolutely brilliant book and I look forward to reading more of this author's books in the future.
