In No Particular Order - My Favourite Reads Of 2020 (part 2)

This is a brilliant, well written thriller, there was a classic murder/mystery vibe to the story. The author gradually peeled away the layers and revealed the secrets, lies and how some of the characters connected together within the various strands of the story. It is a very cleverly written tale of manipulation. revenge, consequences, secrets and betrayal, set in a stunning, isolated location. The sense of foreboding intensifies as the story unfolds, not everyone is going to leave the chalet alive but how many of the guests are on death's hit list? I was booked in from the very first page of this enthralling debut thriller and thought it was a very enjoyable read. Very very highly recommended

Wow....just wow, this is a fast paced, page turner that has more twists and turns than a roller coaster. As with all of Simon Kernick's incredible thrillers, it is extremely well written, has a cast of well rounded and believable, diverse characters and a plot that hooks you in, keeps you guessing and frantically turning the pages. Many of the chapters ended in a cliff hanger giving the reader a very bad case of just one more chapter syndrome. I love Simon Kernick's books and think that he is a very talented author who has definitely excelled himself with this latest incredible thriller. I would love to watch a film or mini series adaptation of this book. Worth far more than five stars and very very highly recommended..

Wow....Just wow, this is a extremely well written, fast paced, roller coaster ride that hardly gives the reader a opportunity to breath as you,Paul and Nanny are launched from one life threatening situation to another. It's a intense, thrilling page turner that is packed full of danger, had me glued to my kindle and frantically turning the pages. The secondary characters were a mixed bag of diverse, realistic individuals who each had their own unique personalities and the story that covers a wide range of emotions and issues had a heart breaking conclusion. I would love to watch a film adaptation of this outstanding debut that is worth far more than five stars and very very highly recommended. This is definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.

I hooked into this enthralling story from the first page, drawn into the lives of the author's vivid character's and their fictional but realistic world. The twists and turns of the plot kept me guessing and frantically turning the pages, I would have read the whole book in one sitting if my brain and eyes had been cooperating.I absolutely loved this brilliant book, worth far more than five stars and very very highly recommended.

This is a extremely well written, roller coaster ride that hooks in the reader from the first page and keeps you glued to your kindle and frantically turning the pages. It's packed full of twists and turns, keeps you guessing and has a prevailing sense of foreboding that increases as the story unfolds. I would love to watch a film adaptation of this book. I thought this was a fantastic read and would love to watch a film adaptation of this book. Worth far more than five stars and very very highly recommended.

OMg,this fantastic series just gets better with each new addition. Like the previous two books Dead Inside and Dead Wrong, Dead Perfect is a extremely well written police procedural but I think that with this, the third book in the series, the author has excelled herself. This is a tightly plotted, page turner that keeps the reader glued to their kindle and frantically turning the pages. The killer was seriously sinister and twisted and the way that the author came up with his name was ingenious. I mean, how many people would think of connecting a hit song by the living legend Cliff Richard and the crimes of a notorious American serial killer. This series has a incredible cast of recurring characters, people that the reader enjoys getting to know and spending their reading time with. The stories are intelligently written and very informative, the author uses her background in the probation service to its full capacity. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this incredible series to readers who enjoy reading dark and gritty thrillers and can't wait to find out what the author has in store for Maggie in book 4.

As with all of Barbara Copperthwaite's thrillers this is a very well written, intense, dark, chilling and thought provoking read. The story was quite disturbing at times and the plot covered some hard hitting but realistic issues and I think that it would raise some interesting and controversial discussions if it was read by a book group.

Wow....just wow, this is one hell of a twisty thriller that is really well written, keeps the reader guessing and frantically turning the pages. I was so captivated by this incredible debut that I read the whole book in one sitting. I was surprised when I discovered that one of the characters had the same name as my dad. I can't wait to read more of this author's books. Worth far more than five stars and very very highly recommended.

This is a well written, thought provoking story that keeps the reader guessing and causes you to experience a wide range of emotions. The plot definitely took the reader out of your comfort zone at times especially during some of theocrats that were set in Afghanistan. This is the first of this author's books that I have read and I would happily read more of his books in the future.

T
his is a captivating book within a book, it's a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside a enigma and I thought it was absolutely bloody brilliant. It's extremely well written. has some beautifully described settings and a diverse and vivid cast of characters. There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe how much I loved this mesmerising debut thriller. Worth far more than five stars and most definitely one of my favourite reads of this year. Very very highly recommended

I love Sheryl Browne's thrillers and The New Girlfriend was no exception, it is a incredibly well written page turner,a gripping tale of secrets, lies and manipulation that as always had me hooked in from the first page. The characters were vivid, well rounded and relatable, there was some unexpected twists and turns and a spine chilling, shocking conclusion that had just a tiny dash of situational irony. Sheryl Browne is very talented and one of my favourite author's. A very very enjoyable read and very very highly recommended.

The Return is a extremely well written debut that is a spine chilling mix of thriller and horror that had me captivated from the very first page. The reader is kept guessing about were Julie was and what happened to her whilst she was missing until towards the end of the story. The characters were well rounded and believable and the settings were so beautifully described that the reader could close their eyes and picture them vividly inside your mind. From the majestic hotel to the dark and sinister woods with its mysterious shadows and sinister atmosphere. I would love to watch a film adaptation of this brilliant book and look forward to reading more of this author's books in the future. Worth far more than five stars and very very highly recommended.

This is a riveting, gripping, believable story that worms it's way under your skin, gives you the chills and causes you to feel anxious about Hannah and her well being. Her character was so realistic and believable that it made the treatment that she received from Kyle difficult to read at times. Unfortunately many women and men have experienced in the past or as still experiencing the mental and physical abuse that Kyle subjected Hannah too. No one knows what is happening behind closed doors, the well rounded, realistic characters could be living right next door to any one of us. This is the author's first psychological thriller and after reading this dark and twisty tale I really hope she plans on writing more in the future. A brilliant read and very highly recommended.

Oh boy, what a book, why have I never read any of this author's books before? This is a fast paced, addictive page turner that is packed full of twists and turns, keeps the reader guessing and frantically turning the pages. The characters were well rounded and diverse, some likeable, some not so likeable, a few of them gave me the creeps and one of them had a complete disregard for their fellow humans. Although this is the sixth book in the Anglesea Murder series, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. I haven't read any of the previous books in this series, a fact that I am going to rectify as soon as possible especially considering I have been informed by a very reliable source (Sarah Hardy) that they are just as brilliant as this one. A very very enjoyable read and very very highly recommended.

I really, really loved The Search Party, I loved it so much that I wanted to read the whole book in one sitting but my old eyes had other ideas. It was gripping, intense, had a couple of jaw dropping OMG moments, kept me guessing and frantically turning the pages. The characters were diverse, vivid and realistic. Simon Lelic is a very very talented author and I think this story would make a very enjoyable tv crime mini series. Worth far more than five stars and very very very highly recommended
