BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - The Matchmaker by Helene Fermont

                                                                 BOOK DESCRIPTION

Perfect Lives Don’t Come Cheap

Marcia Bailey has it all: a passionate marriage to a rich and handsome man who is utterly devoted to her; fame and success as London’s premier matchmaker; a beautiful home in a posh neighbourhood, and fabulous holidays in exotic places.

But her perfect life turns into a nightmare overnight when a mysterious caller suddenly threatens to reveal secrets from her past she thought she had left behind forever. Who is he and what does he really want? He says he wants three million pounds to keep quiet, and she’s willing to pay. After all, she has already sacrificed so much, and perfect lives don’t come cheap.

But Marcia has a hunch her caller wants more than money from her. He wants to hurt and humiliate her. But why?

As police investigate a brutal murder in a wealthy London neighborhood, they untangle a web of lies, violence, sex and jealousy surrounding Marcia Bailey and the group of wealthy and powerful men who have secrets of their own to keep.

The Matchmaker is filled with unexpected twists and turns — and characters that will haunt you long after you’ve read the last page.

This complex thriller is written from the perspectives of various vivid, diverse individuals and has a plot that is set predominantly in the present day. But,there was also instances when various characters took the reader back into their past lives to when they were younger and lived in Brighton. It's a story that covers a wide range of issues, themes and emotions including families, relationships, infidelity, mental health, secrets, obsession, denial, judgement and manipulation.

The cast of characters were a mixed bag of personalities, some likeable, some not so likeable, some were definitely not who they appeared to be and were about as trustworthy as any member of Parliament. I really liked Tom, his wife Luella, Rachel, Madison and Marcia but my absolute favourite characters were the two detectives Terry and Stanley. I loved the closeness of their working relationship and the banter and camaraderie that they shared during their interactions throughout the book.

The Matchmaker is a very well written, tightly plotted, complex, captivating, story that keeps the reader guessing and has a number of unexpected twists, turns and revelations. The story has a cast of vivid, well rounded and realistic characters and has a very satisfactory conclusion. I really really enjoyed this enthralling story and look forward to reading many more of this author's books in the future
