BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - Somebody Out There by Kevin Lynch

                                                                BOOK DESCRIPTION

Be careful what you wish for…

When Ben and Deborah leave the city to start a new life in the beautiful Irish countryside, they can almost taste their perfect future – growing their own food, the kids running free, peace and silence.

But as soon as they arrive in their new home bad things start to happen. And it becomes clear that somebody out there wants them gone.

But ex-crime reporter Deborah doesn’t scare easily. This is the life she’s dreamed of for her family and she’s not giving up on it without a fight.

As the campaign against the family intensifies and becomes truly terrifying, Deborah is determined to unmask whoever is trying to hurt them and starts to dig for the truth.

What she finds is more twisted and horrifying than she could ever have imagined.

Somebody Out There – the stunning psychological thriller perfect for fans of K.L Slater, Miranda Rijks, Teresa Driscoll.

Ben had relocated his family to a isolated house in the Irish countryside, far away from Dublin and the horrific events of their past. He had hoped that the move would be the start of his family's own version of The Good Life but instead they ended up featuring in their own personal Hammer Horror.

The story is told almost entirely from the perspective of Ben,a individual who I had mixed feelings about, I thought his determination to stick to the plan for their new home was admirable. But, when you took into consideration the bad things that had happened since they had moved into their new home and the high probability of something terrible happening to one of more member of his family, his actions and behaviour also came across as selfish and stubborn. I can't say that I liked his wife Deborah very much for various reasons. Despite the family being terrorised by possibly more than one person, Ben and Deborah continued to constantly go out, leaving their two children Jack and Molly on their own in the house. Jack was a really sweet individual and Molly was a typical mix of teenage mood swings and sarcasm. As if having two children who's lives could have been in danger isn't bad enough for the anxiety levels of some readers, the family also had a dog called Harry which caused me to feel doubly anxious and concerned as the story unfolded.

You can't have a isolated setting without having a isolated village with its mixed bag of mysterious and mostly not very welcoming residents. Moving to a new area is very often daunting in itself but it can sometimes be made more difficult when you move somewhere small and you find yourself being treated like a outsider. People can very often be very judgemental with their opinions on outsiders and also,as in this story with their opinions on people who are different and suffer from issues. My heart went out to a poor character called Jeremiah who was not only judged by some of the residents of the village but also by both Ben and Deborah. I thought Jeremiah's caring attitude and interactions with young Jack were really sweet. But,was Jeremiah really the vulnerable individual he appeared to be or was he a master manipulator and behind the campaign against them?

This is a addictive blend of domestic drama, mystery & thriller with a added dash of horror that keeps the reader guessing and builds in intensity as the twists and turns of the story unfolded. I thought this was a very well written, entertaining, enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more of this author's books in the future
