BLOG TOUR,BOOK REVIEW - The Silent Girl by Kelly Heard

                                                                BOOK DESCRIPTION

Sophie wakes in a cold hospital bed with no memory of her life before. She isn’t even sure if Sophie is her real name…

The police tell Sophie she was found alone, unconscious and surrounded by blood-red flower petals, on a remote stretch of highway. She had no I.D., no phone, and no one had reported her missing. But while Sophie’s identity is a mystery, one thing is clear: someone tried to kill her and they almost succeeded.

While she’s recovering, Sophie can’t shake the feeling someone is watching her. When a bouquet of red roses is sent to her room without a note, she is convinced they’re from the same people who left her for dead with crimson flowers woven through her hair…

With no one to turn to, Sophie takes a job working high in the mountains, miles from the nearest town, where she feels she might finally be safe. Until more red flowers begin appearing on the front step of her secluded cottage.

Every cell in Sophie’s body is telling her to run. But she is also desperate to know the truth about who she is. If she lets these people catch up with her, she could finally uncover her past… Or once again place her life in terrible danger…

A totally gripping psychological suspense novel that you won’t be able to put down and will keep you turning the pages late into the night. Perfect for fans of The Girl on the TrainThe Woman in the Window and The Silent Patient.

Our memories are a integral part of our DNA, they are a important part of our identities and help create who we are. Now imagine if something terrible happened to you, something that wiped away all of your memories and left you with just a blank page. No memories of your life before the incident, the people that you had known, the people you had loved, the people that you had lost, your entire life just completely wiped clean.

This gripping thriller is narrated entirely from the perspective of our main character Jane Doe or Sophie as she decides to call herself. She was a really likeable individual and I thought that the author's portrayals of Sophie's conflicting emotions, fear and confusion were very realistic and believable. I liked how the author used the medium of Sophie's drawings as a way to depict her returning memories as well parts of the story being written in italics. The only memory that Sophie had managed to retain was that she had a older brother called Miles and that she had to find him. As the story unfolded,we learned that the siblings had grown up in the care system and that Miles had been very protective of his younger sister.

I loved Dovemorn Estate where Sophie ended up staying after she ran away from the hospital and where she met Nathaniel and his young son Lincoln. I am a massive Nancy Drew fan and the estate reminded me of the settings in which some of her mysteries have been set.The majestic but crumbling marble house with its beautiful but overgrown gardens. The fountain that was covered in vines, the lake that was in the centre of a circle of willow trees. The massive stained glass window that depicted a image of Zenaida Atwood and how the colours  changed when the sun went down. A beautiful place that also had a eerie atmosphere especially at night and where Sophie kept getting the uncanny feeling that she was being watched. And then, there was also the mystery of the mysterious disappearance of Zenaida Atwood, who,one day, walked into the woods and was never seen again. Sophie's feelings of fear escalate when mysterious things start happening at her secluded hideaway but how does she know who to trust when she can't remember who is her friend and who is her enemy?

This is a very well written, slow burning, mystery/thriller that builds in intensity towards the second half of the book. The story has some stunningly described settings, unexpected plot twists and turns and some dark, shocking revelations. Sophie,Nathaniel and Lincoln were well rounded, wonderful, vivid individuals who worked their way into your heart and caused you to feel very anxious about their safety and well being. I really enjoyed this enthralling, captivating story and would happily read more of this author's books in the future.
