BOOK DESCRIPTION
A killer is loose in a small town in Oklahoma, and Sam, the Second-Hand-Man, wants him. Sam is an ancient immortal creature who feeds off the misery he creates. At first, the choice seems obvious; a kid with a stolen gun has decided to make the community pay for the suicide of his father. Sam wants to help his young protege succeed but is soon disappointed.
Unfortunately for Sam, he is not the only one in town who doesn't belong. A man had returned after losing his life in a tornado. This man, along with the help of an emotionally scarred police chief, must stop Sam before he can find and recruit a mysterious hidden killer. The future of the world will depend on it.
The chapters alternated between the perspectives of a number of diverse individuals including Mike, Blaine, cops Elaine and Jack, Donna and evil incarnate Sam. My favourite character was Blaine, he was a really likeable, caring individual and I spent the whole book in a heightened sense of anxiety over his welfare, worrying that anything bad was going to happen to him. I had mixed feelings about Elaine, there was times when I liked her and also times when I didnt. Unfortunately there are a far too many people scattered across the globe who are egotistical and have a very high belief in their own worth, they are greedy individuals who are prepared to anything in their power to attain everything that they believe is rightfully theirs no matter who gets hurt in the process. There are a couple of characters in this book who were greedy, selfish individuals and not very likeable, could one of them be Sam's choice for his new protage. In this breath taking, intense tale of good vs evil, will Blaine be able to defeat Sam or will evil be the victor and how many of the residents will still be alive on vs the dust, smoke and air clears?
wow..just wow, this is one hell of a atmospheric thrill ride that hooks the reader in from the first page, keeps you captivated and hardly gives you a opportunity to breath as the intense, gripping story rockets along. The cast of characters were a mixed bag of diverse, vivid individuals, some likeable, some not so likeable. I would love to watch a film or tv adaptation of this unputdownable, addictive blend of thriller and horror and would gladly read more of this author's books in the future. Worth far more than five stars, very very highly recommended and definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.
