A twisty, unputdownable psychological thriller packed with suspense. Fans of T.M. Logan and Samantha Hayes will be completely gripped.
The chapters of this intricately plotted thriller alternate between the perspectives of Tara and Faye, two women who had been best friends and had moved into majestic but neglected Huntly Lodge whilst they were at college. They had been as close as sisters until the day that Faye stormed out of the Lodge and ignored all Tara's attempts to contact her. Tara had never been able to uncover why Faye had suddenly cut her out of her life and had eventually given up trying to contact her. Three years had passed since that terrible day, Tara is now a doctor and looking forward to her wedding to Lucas and the new life that they planned together in his native Australia. But Tara's past is about to catch up with her after the body of Avril Ryan is discovered in a pit was situated in the grounds of Huntley Lodge. The Detectives who are investigating the case keep insisting that all the evidence points to Tara being involved in the crime but Tara is absolutely certain that had never met the young victim. The last thing that Tara wants or needs is the police to start digging into her life because she has a secret and is scared that if he learnt the truth about her past that would be the end of their relationship and plans for the future. Tara and Faye are drawn back into each others lives but Faye is a very troubled individual who still hung up over events from the past and also didn't need the police digging into her life due to her own secrets. Is Faye behind the campaign against her former best friend? What had caused Faye to run away from the Lodge that day and cut Tara out of her life? Was Tara actually involved in Avril's murder? Or was she in danger of losing her life at the hands of a unknown enemy?
Interspersed throughout the main story was chapters that were headed Now and took the reader back in time and recounted events from the past including the time when the girls where living at the Lodge.
This is a cleverly written, intricately plotted, addictive thriller with a plot that is packed full twists, turns and unexpected revelations. It's a tale of a broken friendship, misconception and secrets with a plot that also covers some relatable issues that affect numerous people every day. The story didn't feature a large cast of characters but the individuals who did appear were relatable and realistic. I thought this was a very enjoyable, thrilling read and I would happily read more of this author's books in the future.
