BLOG TOUR, BOOK REVIEW - Just Married by Kiersten Modglin

                                                                 BOOK DESCRIPTION

When my husband found this perfect little cabin in the woods for our honeymoon, I couldn’t wait to get away. Just us in the middle of the forest, waking up every day in the trees, ending each night in the hot tub under the stars. But now I’m not sure that I know my husband at all…

I just wish we’d gone to the police when someone left a note on the doormat saying: She’s dead, you’re next. Ryan said I was overreacting, but I don’t understand why he won’t go to the cops now things are getting worse. Can I trust my husband?

I’ve known about the terrible thing that Ryan did for years and it’s been tearing me apart. Last night I told him I would always keep his secret. But is the man I married hiding something else from me?

Now someone has cut the phone lines and we’re trapped here. Ryan swears he has no idea what’s going on and just wants to keep us safe. I’m here alone in the middle of the dark forest with the man I thought I could trust. My heart is racing and there’s no one I can call…

My husband promised till death do us part. Am I about to find out what that means?

A heart-pounding, unbelievably twisty psychological thriller that will have you sleeping with the light on! Fans of Gone GirlBehind Closed Doors and Date Night will be utterly gripped.

Omg - this intense thriller has a plot that is the literary equivalent of a bacon roll or sandwich that leaves you with butter running down your chin after you take a bite out of it, just pure perfection.

The chapters predominantly alternated between the perspectives of Grace and Ryan, a couple who had got married eight months after they had met and the story was predominantly set in the isolated cabin in the woods that Ryan and discovered and booked so they could finally go on their honeymoon. Now, I bet at this point, many psychological thriller fans are screaming, yep, I know where this is going but you would be totally wrong, this thrilling read is so much more than the usual control freak husband and abused wife story. In fact Ryan loved Grace so much that there was times when his comments came across as just a tiny bit obsessive whereas Ryan was at the bottom of the list in Grace's affections. We learn from quite early in the story that both characters are harbouring secrets and that Grace plans to tell her husband something that he is not going to take very well so you could say that the honeymoon was doomed even before they reached their destination. After a very strange and uncomfortable first night at the cabin, the couple decide to go for a hike through the woods which is where they encounter a disheveled, homeless man who appears to take a strange interest in Grace. From that moment onwards they find themselves trapped in a living nightmare as their honeymoon descends into a plot from a terrifying horror movie. Grace was a complex and very difficult character to like at times but as the story unfolded and I learned more about her character I found that I had possibly been a little unfair in judging her so quickly. Ryan can across as a loyal, likeable individual but why did he keep gaslighting Grace, dismissing her fears over the homeless man and refusing to get the police involoved once the situation at the cabin escalated?

In the last quarter of the book, the story slipped back twenty years and were voiced from the perspective of a fifteen year old girl called Janie who found herself trapped with her abusive father and downtrodden mother at the same isolated cabin that Grace and Ryan were staying at in the present day. But who was she and how did her story fit into the events that were unfolding in the present day.

Omg, this book is absolutely bloody incredible, it's a extremely well written, gripping addictive read that had me hooked in from the first page and glued to my kindle. I loved the isolated setting, the story was perfectly paced, intricately plotted, intense and keeps the reader guessing. A brilliant, entertaining read, worthy of more than five stars, very very highly recommended and definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year.
