Grace,Charlie and Dan have been friends since primary school, during their school days Grace and Charlie become best friends and really close and they decide to bury a memory box and swear that they will dig it up and open it together when they are older.Years later with Charlie now unfortunately dead Grace decides to dig up the box on her own.Inside the box she finds a letter that she didn't realise that Charlie had written, the contents of that letter makes Grace decide to try and find Charlie's mysterious father. After Grace and Dan set up some do you know this person pages online they are contacted by a mysterious woman called Anna who says that she is Charle`s half sister. After only knowing Anna for a few days they agree to let her move in with them, not long after which Dan starts acting strangely, items start disappearing and Grace is certain that someone is following her.
The story is set in two time frames and flips between the past when Grace is between the ages of nine and eighteen and the present when Grace and Dan are living together and Charlie is dead. The chapters are clearly marked and the story is easy to follow, there is plenty of mystery and intregue in both time frames to keep the reader interested, the story flows along nicely and there aren't any parts of the book that come across as just filler.
There is a mixed bag of believable characters, some likeable, some not so likeable.I tried to feel some sympathy for the main character Grace after what happened to her both in the past and present but I couldn't,I have my reasons and will leave it to other readers to decide for themselves and wait and see if anyone agrees with me.I did however feel some sympathy for a couple of characters that I really shouldn't have because of the way that they behaved, that doesn't mean I felt that their actions were right just that they were driven to do what they did by the way that they were threated by other characters.
The book is very well written and hooks you in from the first page,I was genuinely surprised that this is Louise Jensens debut book, another author I will have to add to my growing to look out for list.
Many thanks to Bookouture for a ARC of this book via netgalley
