BLOG BLITZ, BOOK REVIEW - Glimmer Of Hope by J.A.Andrews

                                                                 BOOK DESCRIPTION

Sometimes chasing a dream can become a nightmare…

Alecia Preen is living in poverty and desperate to make a better life for herself. Having moved to a new area for new beginnings after being disowned by her family, money was fast running out. She is struggling to make ends meet.

With the intention of charging lonely men online for her services, Alecia realises she can supplement her income by being unscrupulous. In meeting Jake Parker he requests that she role-plays as a psychiatrist, but he makes her aware of an underground millionaires playground called Sordida. He warns her to stay away.

As Alecia’s curiosity gets the better of her, she is amazed by the wealth and decadence on offer. Sordida is not the club she had anticipated because behind the legendary name lurks a very dark secret. A secret that could cost her everything.

He pays by the hour and Alecia pays in ways she had never imagined.

Voiced from the perspectives of Alicia, Jake and the mysterious Mr X, this is a novella about the darker side of the escort and sex industry and the lengths that people are prepared to go in their desire to make money. Alicia really should have listened to Jake's warning and stayed well away from Sordida, she should have remembered that if something appears too good to be true then it normally is and there is a big chance that something is going to go wrong. But she was blinded by the lure of the money and captivated by charming Mr X with his expensive gifts and lavish lifestyle. Alicia was about to learn to her own cost that money doesn't always buy you happiness and that there are people who live by their own rules and have no regards for the lives of others. In their minds, people are a commodity, something to be used, abused and discarded like the cork of a champagne bottle. I didn't think that Alicia was a very likeable character for various reasons and therefore I struggled to feel any sympathy for her when the full truth about Mr X and his sordid business empire were revealed. I wouldn't say that any of the main characters had redeemable qualities to their characters although I did feel a bit of sympathy for Jake towards the end of the story, only a tiny bit though.

This is a dark, gritty, slow burner,a atmospheric blend of sex, drugs, greed, control, manipulation and obsession. This is only a novella but the author has certainly packed a lot of story into the small number of pages. I love this talented author's,gripping, twisty psychological thrillers and look forward to reading many more of his books in the future.
